Murder of Paladin Tarson Myth in The Hefflings | World Anvil

Murder of Paladin Tarson

In 983, Paladin Tarson a hero of the Order was found dead at his home in Embercliff, the 'capital' of Taria's Order. Even to this day, the death was a mystery; but the Order is still actively on the look out for Tarson's Squire, Davos of Westmarch. Taria's Order deems him has a key suspect and, as he has disappeared, he is also labelled as an Oathbreaker.
It was terrible! My master was just laying there, motionless. Who would do such a thing to the kindest man?
Paladin Tarson's maid, who found Tarson, dead.

What happened?

The trouble with cases like these, it can be difficult to determine who done it. Even with the Magic knowledge many mages of Atharia has, murder mysteries still require non-magical means to find the truth; finding the evidence, speaking to witnesses and interrogating the suspects.   Across the city of Embercliff, the murder of Paladin Tarson is a well known event; but nobody truly knows what happened that night. Taria's Order even openly states; since the Head Matron of the time, Cedna Farbright said days after the night, "the only way to find out the truth, is by finding the Oathbreaker, Davos of Westmarch." The Order strongly suspects it was indeed Davos; "as Davos cannot be found, one can only assume he done it!"
We, the Children of Taria, will ensure that justice will be found for our brother, Tarson. Indeed, his live was stolen by none other than the Oathbreaker, Davos of Westmarch. Yes there is no way to know for certain, therefore we must find him. The only way to find out the truth, is by finding the Oathbreaker, Davos of Westmarch; and as Davos cannot be found, one can only assume he done it!"
— Full statement by the former Head Matron Cedna Farbright

Theories

Even though there is a manhunt for Davos of Westmarch, whispers are still airing thoughts, opinions and assumptions. Conspiracy theorists are wise to make sure their voices on the matter aren't heard, especially by anyone of the Order. Many people do wonder what happened to Tarson and whether or not the Order is telling the truth. Some claim Davos is a fake. There is no Davos of Westmarch and it is a hoax to cover up what truly happened that night.

Beldina Darkflower

At the time, Beldina Darkflower was known to be good friends with Davos of Westmarch, which many argue against the 'Davos Hoax' theory. Beldina would spend a lot of time with Davos, therefore many assume she would be the best person to know where Davos had gone to. However, she too claims she does not know.   There have also been questions raised of where was Beldina on the night of the murder. The Head Matron at the time, Cedna Farbright states, "she was with me, in my dormitory. What we did there is personal and no one's business except our own."

And Now

High Preistess, Beldina Darkflower is the Head Matron of Taria's Order. This cold case has been dug up from the grave of time, as Beldina is suspected as a Sympathiser of the Oathbreakers; especially with her attempts to elliviate the anguish Oathbreakers get on a daily basis.
