Investing this item requires a simple ritual with the Transmutation trait; it takes 10 minutes to complete; no magical knowledge or skill is required to invest it, providing the Heart has been made correctly prior to this.
When investing this item, the investor selects a creature known well to it. The investor then gifts the heart to the creature – if the creature accepts the gift, then whenever it is worn by the creature, the pulses in the heart match exactly those of the investor’s heartbeat.

In a time of extremis (the trigger being the wearer taking damage), the wearer to whom the heart has been gifted can use a reaction with the manipulate trait to tear the pendant off their neck and break it off the floor or some other surface. This action will result in the investor (the gifter) taking damage for the wearer to a maximum of 20HP. If the investor and the wearer have partaken in a heartbond ritual together, this is doubled to 40HP. Any remaining damage and all other effects still affect the wearer as normal.
