Wavekin
Half-Merfolk
Both hale and beautifully-made, the wavekin are a rare sort most at home on or in the sea. They are often spotted by small glistening and scintillating scales along the arms and legs, but are often very difficult to tell from tall beautiful humans or elves.
They have dark red or green hair that is naturally thick and full, and grows faster as they age.
Many of them spring from the wanderer Ralian culture, loving the road and a good story as much as they love a warm hearth, but plenty are of Ulus, Viet, or Thulian stock as well.
Wavekin are often surrounded by mystique and expectation and can find the pedestal they’re put on because of looks, health, or natural athleticism to be crushing. While they frequently find a way to cope with this and make their own way in the world, they just as often resent the shining precipice they’re pointed toward and turn to seedier means of traveling life’s paths.
There are few fiercer pirates than wavekin tired of society.
Thanks to jealousy and ignorance, wavekin are no strangers to prices suddenly rising, inns suddenly full, or good food suddenly in short supply. Some get the impression that wavekin have somehow ‘got it made’ even if they approach dressed in rags.
Some wavekin take to the seas to find their merfolk family, but often find out either through rejection or death, that their kin beneath the waves want them even less than those on land.
Wavekin are humanoids with the aquatic and human subtypes.
