Vedhi

Half-Volu

Nearly indistinguishable from demi or volu at first glance, Vedhi are ruddy-skinned and built a little bit shorter and stockier than the typical human. Often striking a perfect medium between their parent races, Vedhi are rare creatures who’s very birth is an uncommon stroke of luck. Often seen as tied to some grand and amazing fate, Vedhi are exceedingly lucky and those they call friends and allies are often graced by their good fortune when in peril. Many come from Turchian societies where they were first noted hundreds of years ago, but they’ve sprung up in various places as demi and volu couple. They have become much more common in Ralian cultures as well and are seen as great omens of good fortune.   Vedhi rarely receive much more than an eyeroll so far as racial hatred goes, but when they do it’s directed at one half of their heritage. They’re either a thieving volu or a petulant demi.   Other volu and most demi treat them with a level of adulation for the omen most vedhi bring. They are most rare (in areas where volu are common) in Dalantia, often being drawn into lives of luxury (though with stiffled freedoms) due to their mere presence being seen as a grand omen of fortune.
Vedhi are humanoids with the human and halfling subtypes.   Size: Medium   Speed: 30 feet   Languages: Vedhi with high Intelligence scores can choose to speak Volu(halfling-archaic). Archaic languages cannot have their proficiency level improved after character creation.   Ability Scores: Vedhi gain a +2 to one ability score of their choice.   Born Lucky: It’s a stroke of luck that a Vedhi even enters the world. They gain a +1 racial bonus on all saving throws.   Fantastic Fortune: A Vedhi’s serendipity is far more than superstition. Three times per day, when one of your allies within 30 feet makes a saving throw, you may roll the same saving throw as if you were the one subject to the effect requiring it. You may use this ability after your ally has rolled, but before the GM declares if the roll was a success or failure. Your ally may choose to use your saving throw in place of his own. You are treated as having the “Lucky Halfling” and “Lucky” feats.   Lucky Stars: Once per day, after you roll a natural 1 on a saving throw or skill check, you may reroll that check but must take the second result. Likewise, you may use this ability istead to negate a critical hit that is confirmed against you, turning it into a normal hit. This does not stack with other effects that allow you to reroll a saving throw or an attack roll. This counts as the “Defiant Luck” feat.   Broad-Minded: Vedhi are the children of two distinct words and gain a +2 racial bonus on Will saves.   Undaunted: Vedhi’s good fortune inures them to fear. They gain a +2 bonus to Will saves against fear effects and the DC to demoralize them or otherwise increases by half their HD.

Alternate Racial Traits:

Other Side of the Coin: Some Vedhi do not boon their allies with a touch of their fortune as much as those who act against them are cursed with the opposite. Three times per day as an immediate action, when you are hit by a melee attack, you can force the opponent who made the attack to reroll it with a –4 penalty. The opponent must take the result of the second attack roll. This is a supernatural ability. ‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎This replaces the Fantastic Fortune racial ability.   Sharp and Keen: Vedhi gain a +2 racial bonus to Perception and Sense Motive checks and one is always a class skill for them. This replaces the Vedhi’s “Broad-Minded” and “Undaunted” racial abilities.   Compact: Some Vedhi don’t grow to the full height of their demi parents and stay a bit closer to the ground. These “compact” Vedhi gain a +2 DEX and CHA and take a -2 to STR. They are also small, rather than medium, but their speed is unchanged. This alters the vedhi’s ability scores and size and replaces the “Undaunted” racial ability. Compact Vedhi have less variance in height and are between 3’4" and 3’10".   Weapon Familiarity: Vedhi are proficient with slings and treat any weapon with the word “halfling” in its name as a martial weapon. This replaces “Broad-Minded”.
