Gachari (gäˈchä rē or Gah-CHAH-ree)

Gachari are cousin to Gansang and proud of it. The hero of the Songuk, Tai Guk Song, was their first ruler. The Gachari formed as the legendary three brothers went their separate ways. Tai Guk Song, Tai Yum Gi, and Tai Dang Yan.   While their tale of woe, betrayal and triumph is well known by historians, the simplest facts are thus:
  • The three were the heroes of what is now known as Songuk and were deciding how the forming nation should be lead.
  • In a heated disagreement, Yan killed Gi and moved in a panic to try and assassinate Song.
  • Song escaped the assassination, rallied his men, and chased his sworn brother into the west.
The civil war over control of Songuk raged for years ending with Yan killed by the mercenaries and bandits he cultivated, doing anything he could to scramble military support. The Yandang were created, a chaotic anarchic force between Songuk and Geum bent on taking what they want and dismantling anything that tells them they can't.   While Gachari were founded on the same principals as the Gansang, continued leadership by Tai Guk Song (who did not want to be a ruler) established a bit more order and solidarity than the separate provinces/states in Songuk headed by councils. The Gachari of Geum are a bit more entrenched in their homeland and heritage and more interested in order and law.   Many Gachari are mixed-race including demi (human), rakag (orcs), fenn (gnomes), and venn (halflings). Avaar (Dwarven) communities among them tend to be very small.   Homeland: The Union of Songuk was still in many ways their birthplace, but the land of Geum is where their culture truly crystallized. Separated from the east until the Heaven's Road was won, they very much became their own people. The influence of the hierarchical Thulian people of Dalantia has definitely rubbed off.   Demi Appearance: Native Gacahri are svelte and dark-haired with tan skin and strong brows. They have straight black or brown hair and eyes that run the gamut of demi shades. Gachari do not have the ring-shaped birthmark of their Gansang cousins, but otherwise look nearly identical.   Primary Religion: There is little in the way of a true primary religion of the Gachari culture but the Cradle Pantheon is most prevalent. The Paragon is highly venerated and seen as the guideline to what people should aspire to be. Many revere their ancestors and follow many different spiritual traditions passed down in their communities. Temperism has a solid flock in the northern regions.   Common Races: Primarily Demi (human), Half-Quessir(half-elf), and other hybrids making up the bulk of the remaining population.   Background Skills:
Artistry
- Combat Choreography, Feng Shui, Flyting.
Lore
- Cradle Landmarks, Etymology (Language), Heroic History, Yandang Bandits, Yandang Region.   Background Traits:   Cliff Strider   Tongue in Many Towns   Cultivated   Cultural Equipment:   Gachari Mainblade

Gachar Language:

Gachar is very similar to Gansang but has been influenced by the very accurate and descriptive Thule. While the alphabet is almost exactly the Gansang alphabet, the language has developed several nuances and complexities that bring it into its own.
Native Gachari(cradle) counts as Broken Gansang(cradle).
Written: From Gansang - A short alphabet with a small library of marks which indicate "adjective sounds" such as the shortening of a vowel or combining of two adjacent words. - The language is very simple but can be used in complex ways, but it's very difficult to learn if you don't have exposure to locals to use it "live".
Dialects   Cradle - The origin dialect of Gachari, mostly learned in Geum or nearby.   Road - The dialect of Gachari found most outside of the western Cradle region and among frequent travellers.   Royal - The dialect learned among nobility and those close to the monarchy or very wealthy cities.

Gachari Abilities and Lore

Primary Religion: None, but many are have spiritual traditions upheld by their community.

Yandang

The Yandang are a splinter culture between Gansang and Gachari primarily seeing themselves as the true owners of both lands of Songuk and Geum. While most see their ilk as simply bandits, raiders, and radicals, but there are many rumblings among their people that they are the true descendants of Tai Guk Song and that the royalty that formed in Geum are charlatans and usurpers.   Regardless of this, they are disorganized and much of their rebellious acts manifest as destroying caravans moving along Heaven's Road and kidnapping children to grow their numbers.

Culture Ability:

Even the meekest of Gachari seem to be able to tap into a well of bravery and skill that they may have never been shown to possess before. The sprit of Tai Guk Song dwells within all Gachari.   The Gachari can, once per week as an immediate action, channel the bravery and tenacity of Tai Guk Song and ignore penalties to attack rolls or physical score-related skill checks related to their ability (such as non-proficiency, negative ability mods, negative conditions, etc). Until the next time the Gachari sleeps, they have a +2 bonus to saves against fear.

Common Superstitions:

  • Family members should not split to walk around obstacles but should cross on the same side.
  • Splitting the pole can result in ill omen.
  • Dogs are good luck.
  • Marriages, once decided on should be made public quickly. Keeping them secret invites misfortune.
  • It is bad luck to let fruit expire. Dark fae live in spoiled fruit.
