Soge (SO-jay)

the Scaled, Old Grimjaws

"Soge grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the weaponry to make the difference." -- The Serenity Prayer by Er, Chosen of Soge.

Divine Domains

Soge is the goddess of promises, the forge, fire, justice, civilization, and warcraft.
There is no room for interpretation of her will nor debate over who is the true avatar as no dragon but Old Grimjaws can speak the mortal tongues. Blüfelden recognizes the god as their official head of state, though during the time between incarnations, someone else is appointed in her absence. Soge is generally content to keep her rule to the Cays and allow the rest of the world to govern itself but nonetheless many judges and scholars of law will pray to her and statues of dragons are common in courthouses.

Artifacts

Most famously there is Soge's Kiln, a large lantern of sorts. It was lit long ago by Soge's first avatar and given to Er's grandmother. Additionally there's the Champion's Bident which was forged by Er herself years later using the fire from the Kiln.

Holy Books & Codes

Soge, unlike her siblings, has codified her dictates in holy texts that outline rules to be followed by people at all levels of society. The holy texts Common Law and Law of Cays are for everyone, average people will find guidance on how to live a lawful and therefore holy life. For craftsmen and sailors there's the more specialized holy book, Rules for Anvil and Sail.
Further specific is the Mavon Code which was not written by Soge herself but instead by Er and is only one page long. And finally, Rules for Rulers guides whomever is in charge while Soge is away or between incarnations.
In the year 1081, scholar and paladin Al Mavon penned A Codification of the Conventions of Warfare. Though not considered part of the Holy Cannon, many people consider it to be invaluable guidelines for waging war.

Tenets of Faith

Edicts Anathema
  • Obey and enforce laws; silence is culpability.
  • Learn a trade; idleness is to be despised.
  • Heed your superiors; they are your betters for a reason.
  • Worship other gods.
  • Break the law.
  • Slay a dragon.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Unlike her siblings, Soge guides her followers away from reincarnation and instead towards an afterlife, called Soge. This afterlife, however, is exclusively for her most devoted followers such as the Mavon Paladins.

Social

Family Ties

She is not close with any of her Chthonic siblings. Indeed, she has at times been outright hostile towards them. Especially Hukoreise. In the Mârton Cays it is the law to drown any infant who is born with purple skin and pointed ears.
That said, she has come to the defense of her siblings, specifically during the Last Archon Wars where she and her Mavon Paladins marched into the tiers to avenge Hukoreise's fallen avatar.

On Alignment

Though my tables will never observe strict alignment adherence, there are those who find knowing what alignments are common among a god's followers can be useful for roleplaying a faithful. Soge, for her part, will only tolerate lawful characters.

NOTE

As of 1089, an incarnation of Soge has not made herself known for 41 years.
