The Setting:
Welcome to Tuared, the final frontier they call it! You're among the first people to arrive on this strange land that (some say) appear out of nowhere some years ago. About 6000 or so people currently live in the only settlement on the continent: Mythyard. Originally settled by the Mesquida Family seven years ago, this town of refugees has rapidly grown into a destination for special interest groups from the world over. This has made it a wonderful place for mercenaries looking to find work, those who yearn for adventure, or those trying to leave behind a difficult past. It's filled with silver that flows both through the rivers and is imbedded within the earth (in Harrow silver is the rarest heavy metal and has magical properties). One of the 4 printing presses that exist in the whole world is housed here which has attracted a great number of scholars despite the risk Tuared poses.
The Factions
- The Mesquida Family: Albí and Simó Mesquida were relatively unremarkable aristocrats prior to the moonfall. Things changed when Simó became one of the first reborn in order to rescue Albí from one of the many time rifts that Uxlotl's death caused. After many years of attempting to rebuild their society in Ashweald, they became painfully disillusioned with the idea of restoration and began to rally people to settle in the newly discovered Tuared. Using all of their wealth and resources, sacrificing everything they once had the pair traveled with 3000 settlers to Tuared where they would build a new beginning. Thus far, their rule hasn't been exactly quiet. but Mythyard itself is quite prosperous. The silver trade is booming and largely under their control.
- The Evenvalor Society for Cartographic Excellence: When the Vaylian Trading Company announced their expedition to the newly discovered continent, Isidora acted swiftly. Using her personal wealth to hire privateers in Elena and raising a fleet of 4 dhows, she was able to arrive to the continent much more swiftly than the Trading Company in their galleons. Though Evenvalor was outmanned, Vaylians war in trade not steel and her early arrival allowed her to broker agreements with the refugees from Ashweald that had settled Mythyard. She'd built relationships and trust with their leadership, even providing the ashenfolk with a relic from her collection—a Clockwork Cog.
- The Vaylian Trading Company: Arriving late to the party, when the Vaylian Trading Company finally caught up to Evenvalor's expedition they were met with cold shoulders by the locals, making their job very difficult indeed. Seven galleons had sailed from Fiuttà to Mythyard only to be barred entry at the last moment. The merchants would have to sit on the bay waters for two months, the crewmen growing more agitated by the day. Luckily they were eventually able to make landfall and began a meaningful and fruitful trade with the settlement, even establishing a large trading house on the bay.
- The Principi sen Patrena: When Isidora Evenvalor was gathering crew for her expedition to Tuared, she caught the attention of ship hands loyal to Handsome Leila. Once aboard, these sleeper agents incited a mutiny and took control of the ship, setting sail for Od Pholix. Handsome Leila then sent her first mate, Cecil Sly, and a small armada to Tuared to serve the Principi interests. Their influence on the mainland of Tuared is limited but a fort has been built on the smallest of the Glass Isles from which they are able to launch raids on Mythyard and the rest of Tuared's coastline.
- The Watchers: Led by Dowd the Younger, the Watchers of Tuared concern themselves with protecting the settlers of Mythyard from the strange and unexplored land. Sometimes called "roadwardens" these Watchers have begun the project of building forward camps and keeps so that more of the continent can be explored or settled with greater safety. The old priorities of the Watchers are largely absent here, though they still posses the expertise of any other chapter in their order.
- The Battle Chef Brigade: Tuared is filled with many strange and heretofore unseen specimens, many of which are extremely dangerous to hunt. Some of the time even if you do catch them the damn things have venom glands all over their bodies or poisonous connective tissue or their bone shatter into splinters when you apply heat. This strange and inconsistent biology made it necessary for the founding of a special order. Lead by Beatrix of Tannith, these warriors double as line chefs who specialize in the safely preparing the animals and plants of Tuared for consumption.
- The Redwinds: A military company currently serving in the Vaylian Trading Company's entourage who happen to bear an ancient grudge against the Riverlords owing to myriad defeats suffered during the free city revolts.
People of Note
- Albí Mesquida is always glad to receive guests in the long house. Despite his noble status, he's always incredibly cordial, speaking to aristocrats and commoners with the same tone and intonation. Simó however rarely attends court due to his illness, sending their son Miquel to sit in his seat instead. Simó is known to be a rather excellent artist though, the paintings and carvings on the walls of the long house are primarily his work.
- Isodora Evenvalor is usually busy in her office reviewing reports. Although wealthy, she was a relatively reclusive figure before her arrival upon Tuared and little public knowledge was known. To Vaylians her name may be a mockery but she has provided an invaluable service to the people of Mythyard by making sure maps created by the ESCE are available to public ventures.
- Fiona Deth is a decorated veteran of the Third Principi War and the former governor of Porta de Mercanta Vaylia. For her service, she was given command of this venture by the Ducs Bels. She's a shrewd individual with a mind for both finance and war, a rare combination as many point out. The venture has thus far thrived under her, despite the friction with the locals and the growing threat of the pirates.
- Dowd the Younger is the highest ranking survivor of the Watchers who were stationed at Skyspear during the moonfall. As such, she inherited the mantle of Knight Commander of the broken order. She and those loyal to her fell in with Simó Mesquida during his reclamation project, following him across the Storm Straight years later.
- Maida and Calpurnia Redwind are the leaders of this detachment of the Redwind Mercenary Company, known for their mastery of the phalanx formation and guerrilla tactics, respectively. Though they're both young for commanders, they showed gained notoriety while putting down a bourgeois in Rochegav.
Places of Interest
- The Village Long House is accessible to members of the community every hour of every day. Social gatherings like feasts, dances, and story circles are held here as well as court which is held every day from dawn to noon. The long house also houses the printing house, a rather cramped room secluded towards the back.
- The Wooden Snail is a comfortable, if small, tavern near the bay. It's a frequent place for vaylian sailors and other transients who feel less comfortable in the long house.
- Tuared happens to be blessed with natural springs. At the very far edge of Mythyard, you will find the Silver Waters bath and tea house where many enjoy a delightful, soothing baths and healing teas.
- Silversmithing is a very rare and difficult to master skill. The Heat of the Moment is owned and operated by the only master silversmith in all of Tuared—Master Poraka. Under her she has two apprentices who aid in the fulfillment of larger or more complex orders.
- The Minotaurium Imporium arrived (seemingly overnight) around the same time as the Trading Company but the owner is not vaylian.
- Ducs' Berth is the controversial title for the cluster of buildings that the Vaylian Trading Company constructed to support their operation in exchange for supplying the settlement with new trade goods (especially livestock). A non-exhaustive list of the buildings you can find in this district: shipright, the Snoozing Sailor, Commander Deth's office, customs building, living quarters for VTC employees, land-to-sea defense turrets.
- The Evenvalor Society for Cartographic Excellence Headquarters is the only building in town that rivals the village longhouse in size. It houses dozens of drafting desks, hundreds of maps, and of course the operating offices of the Society itself.
- The Watchers use this tower as their base, housing their members there and training in the yard. Though the order never gave this building a name the locals have taken to calling it the Roadspear.
- The Culinary Citadel is where the Battle Chef Brigade houses their chefs and practice their battle and cooking skills.
- Stonestar Family Practice serves as Mythyard's barbershop, cobbler, and clinic.
