Lizardfolk

Species Traits

• Creature Type: You are a Humanoid.
• Size: You are Medium.
• Speed: Your walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.
• Age: Lizardfolk reach maturity at about age 5 and are lucky to live to be 60.
• Bite: You have a fanged maw that you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with it, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier piercing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
• Hold Breath: You can hold your breath for up to 15 minutes at a time.
• Hungry Jaws: You can throw yourself into a feeding frenzy. As a bonus action, you can make a special attack with your Bite. If the attack hits, it deals its normal damage, and you gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
• Natural Armor: You have tough, scaly skin. When you aren’t wearing armor, your base AC is 13 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield’s benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.

Civilization and Culture

History

Of all the kith, lizardfolk are the greatest outliers. Originating in the Tiers, lizardfolk are the only kith species with cold blood. This is hardly the only difference. Lizardfolk hatch from eggs that are laid deep in murky swamps and spend the first 3-4 years of their existence as small tadpole like creatures incapable of living on land. Since clutches are laid by the hundred or so and many won't survive adolescence, very little sentimental value is placed on parental bonds.
Lizardfolk don't experience emotion in the exact same way as most other kith. Things like fear and anger are turned up to 11 but sentimentality is foreign to most of them because it's not taught in their societies. Kindness is seen as weakness by most lizardfolk and when it is shown to them, they often either don't know what to do with it or else suspect that there must be a catch.
This isn't to say they are incapable of it. Handsome Laila is a good example of a lizardfolk who has developed quite a bit of sentiment because of her socialization among the Principi.
