Iele

The iele are not so much as a race as a group of chosen beings with similar tasks and abilities. They are neither of the physical plain or the spiritual but walk the bridge between. They protect rifts between the physical and spiritual planes and make these rifts their homes. Inside these rifts is a host of different species of spirit beast or animal spirits. These creatures choose an iele to protect and guard them.

An iele can live for thousands of years protecting their home and the creatures that chose them. When an iele’s time comes close to an end, the spirit beasts choose a new being from the physical plane to live among them. That physical being is changed to take the iele’s place. They are no longer the person they were before and aren’t part of the race they were born into.

Sometimes iele bring physical beings into their home to stay with them for a time. Oftentimes it’s because the iele misses social interaction and wants someone to talk to plus a little extra. Other times it’s because the physical being has a noble mission they must fulfill and the iele takes them in to guide them on their path. Because of this, the iele often make an appearance in songs, stories, and legends. Many beings like to claim they met an iele while they were lost in the woods and slept with the iele. Though these beings have little to prove their claims other than their word.

Iele From Romanian Lore

Iele are female nature spirits that live in forests, marshes, caves, and wilds. Their magic is strongly connected to nature and has strong seductive powers over men. They are sometimes said to be seen dancing under the moonlight with bells around their ankles. They will entice men to them and their victims are never seen again. They often live alone but sometimes gather in groups in the sky, flying alone or in fiery chariots.
