Fey

General Information

The fey are the current race that live alongside the aes sídhe in Bhur-loka’s Gate. The aes sídhe need the work of another race to upkeep their lavish lifestyles and perform the labors that the aes sídhe see as beneath them. Such labor includes guarding the border, the production and crops and clothing, metal working, crystal excavation, and all other sorts of mundane tasks that involve getting your hands dirty. In exchange for their labor, the fey share excess to the most protected and fertile land in all of Hárronfall. The fey also have first access to the aes sídhe’s functional inventions and control the distribution of those inventions to the rest of Hárronfall. The fey see this as a fair trade off and prosper because of it.

The fey possess the most quirky aura abilities out of all the other races. As a baseline, every fey can perform minor fertility enchantments to manipulate their surroundings, while each fey is capable to create strange phenomenons and otherworldly manipulations personal to their own aura. Some less powerful aura traits are common between multiple fey. The more powerful traits capable of great devastation are incredibly rare.

In terms of physical appearance, the fey have olive toned skin. Their skin is also covered in dark brown or pale-colored blotches or veining. They have dark brown hair with gold or green highlights. Their eyes come in a whole range of color with as much variation as humans.

Culture

Common Dress code

There is a sharp divide in the style of dress between the common fey and members of the small courts, or those that live in Tír na nóg. The common fey wear a knee-length, kilt-like garment and a cloak cut off at the waistline. Both items of clothing are made from plant fibers that are rarely dyed.

The fey from the courts or live directly along with the aes sídhe, copy the ruling race’s style of dress. These fey wear brightly colored clothing with lace and embroidery. Their clothing comes in many cuts and styles but is light, loose fitting, and covers little skin.

Fey from all classes keep their hair long. The common fey will dread their hair, or keep it tied in simple braids and ponytails. The fey of the upper class are more elaborate with their hairstyles using crystal beads, feathers, and flowers to decorate their hair.

Art & Architecture

While the aes sídhe may be the idea mills for many inventions, the fey that live with them in Tír na nóg are the refiners. Some fey are welcomed to the capital because they're pretty, or excellent social lights, but most are chosen for their wit, nimble hands, or artistic skills. The aes sídhe’s inventions start out as novelties, but the fey find ways to mass produce these works and sell them to the rest of Hárronfall. Gaining a position in Tír na nóg is highly sought after by many of the fey, but few catch the eye of the aes sídhe. Because of this, many fey are envious of those that get to live in the capital.

Ideals

Gender Ideals

The fey are greatly affected by the aes sídhe. Aes sídhe are sexless and it takes them considerable effort to see the cultural differences between male and female any other race might have. The fey’s culture is completely gender fluid because of this. There are no taboos or expectations based on sex or gender. The differences in genitalia are only there for the function of procreation and play no other role in their society and do not control who they can sleep with or what they choose to do with their life. Even their language has no masculine or feminine influences.

Traits and Attributes

The fey have four aura gates. Their lifespan is about two centuries long. They reach physical maturity in their third decade and their aura matures in their forth. They can’t last as long without food or water as many other races but are a little less prone to sickness. Their eyes have the typical three sets of cones and rods. One set of rods is sensitive to visible light, one set for infrared light, and the last for ultraviolet. They can hear sound between 25 Hz and 45 kHz.

Fey From Celtic Lore

The fey, faerie, or fair folk is used as a catch-all term used for supernatural beings from Tír na nóg. The fey are divided into different classes and tribes depending on the sources. Later and more common sources divide the fey into two classes, those on the Seelie Court and those of the Unseelie. Those of the Seelie Court are benevolent nature spirits while those of the Unseelie Court are monovalent and enjoy playing tricks on humans. Older sources do not see the fey as good or evil, but all as beings from the spiritual plane. They are creatures different from humans. The same rules and order do not apply to them. The fey in older sources are divided into many tribes but three classes, the mediators, darklight, and light with three subclasses, parasite, warrior, and scribe.
