Deva (Day-va)
Historical Account
The devas were one of the four primordial races, the first four races to build a complex civilization in Hárronfall before the creation of skyarch. Little remains of the deva’s culture and even less is known about how they ran their society. There are the spangled remains of some grand temples that have been excavated. The evidence left behind suggests the devas were fiercely devout and they were connected to the energies of Niflheim, not Múspel.
There is a large stone carving left behind by the divas that suggests they knew that the moons soon collide out of orbit. Though it really depends on how the stone carving is interpreted and there is little other information to go off. Depending on the stone carving’s interpretation, the colliding moons were a sign of the end of days where those out of their gods’ favor would be destroyed.
Abilities and Culture
The devas were one of two races known to tap into the energies of Niflheim, not Múspel. Unfortunately, both races have been dead for thousands of years, so little is known about how their powers functioned. They could expel the forces of Niflheim in the form of galdra, not aura. With their galdra they had powerful control over the seven elemental forces. They could also cause force enhancements on their physical abilities.
Their entire culture was centered on their religious beliefs. They erected magnificent temples in the name of their gods. The rulers of their society also had major religious titles. They upheld a strict honor code because of their beliefs centered around spiritual ascension. They were the only race at the time to believe in reincarnation. They believed that by behaving pure and goodly, their deeds would take them to the heavens thereafter. After experiencing many lives, they would prosper eternally as deities. Those who behaved poorly would be punished in the afterlife for their indulgent and unkindly behavior.
Devas, like asuras, had three sexes. In their language the re ning were the males, the ma ning were the females, and the ma ning were intersexed. Devas also reproduced in the same manner as the asuras. They also had three gender classes. The sai xong raised children and spirit guides. The ren xong were builders and farmers. They also built and maintained temples. The ken xong were warriors and protectors. They were also missionaries that spread the word of the devas belief system. Not that many others listened.
Conflict
The devas and asuras had a lot of physical similarities. While they drew their energy from different power sources, it functioned similarly. Though their belief system and cultures clashed severely. The lands inside the devas control possessed three types of corium, ruby, topaz, and garnet. While the asuras’ lands held four other types, sapphire, tourmaline, and emerald. Corundum could be used to enhance both races’ connection to the elemental forces, but they needed a complete set of seven to access the powers of all seven elements.
The different resources were the cause of many wars. The devas wouldn’t trade peacefully with a bunch of god hating fools. The asura wouldn’t give their corundum away to those constantly criticizing their behavior. So they fought constantly not only over the stones, but their belief systems.
When the signs in the heavens and in the physical plane pointed to the collision of the two moons, the deva took it as a sign they were correct in their beliefs. They knew their gods were finally going to wipe Midgardr of all evil, including the entire asura race. They made no effort to protect their society from the travesty, as they knew they were faithful and would be saved. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case, as all four of the primal races were wiped out.
Devas From Hindu Lore
Devas are benevolent minor deities. They are typically assorted with forces of nature and the elements. Some governed parts of the cosmos or represented moral values. All are associated with the powers of light. They are at constant war with their malevolent counterparts, the asuras.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
