Asura (Ah-zu-ra)
Historical Account
The asuras were one of the four primordial races, the first four races to build a complex civilization in Hárronfall before the creation of skyarch. Little remains of the asura’s culture and even less is known about how they ran their society. What is known is that the asura were incredibly powerful, and they had an intense rivalry with their neighboring race, the devas.
There is no evidence that suggests they were aware of the collision of the two moons before its happening. But with something that catastrophic and worked changing, they had to see the signs. Perhaps they knew of its coming and knew there was nothing they could do to save themselves.
Abilities and Culture
The asuras had seven aura gates and large pools of aura. With their aura they could manipulate the seven elements, but their energies were better suited to increasing their physical abilities. With their aura they could become as strong as a jötun yet as graceful as an álfr.
The asuras had a pretty advanced society as far as things go for the level of technology the beings of Hárronfall possessed. They were the least concerned about the otherworldly and higher powers. The way they saw things, the higher powers were beings from other realms and too concerned about their own doings to give two shits about what was going on in the physical plane. The asuras put all their efforts into making their lives comfortable, instead pleasing the otherworldly.
When they saw the signs of two moons colliding, they only took it as more proof that the higher powers didn’t care about them. If they could be bothered to lift a finger to protect the beings on Hárronfall, they would have prevented the collision in the first place. They came to terms with the potential fall of their society and came to terms with their circumstances in their own ways.
Sex and Gender
The asuras were one of the two races known to have three sexes instead of one or two. The first two being regular male and female, but the third a ka xing, which was intersexed with both masculine and feminine physical traits as well as having male and female reproductive parts. In reproduction, the rah xing (male) would release his premature sperm into the ka xing where the rah xing’s genes would be spliced with the ka xing’s genes while the sperm fully developed. The ka xing would then release the fully developed sperm into a ready sey xing (female).
The asuras also had three ‘gender’ classes that determined secondary sex characteristics and an asura’s place in society. The first class was the mey king. Their primary purpose was to raise and teach children as well as reproduce offspring of their own. The mey king had more feminine sex characteristics. The second class was the sa king. They were primarily the architects and farmers. Their secondary sex characteristics were more fluid in nature. The third class were hir king. They were primarily warriors and defenders of their homeland. They had more masculine sex characteristics.
These gender classes didn’t just affect their bodies, but their thought processes and personality as well. When an asura reached adulthood, they would intake the genetic material of an older asura from the class they were assigned to. This would change the young asura’s body. These gender classes could also be changed later in life. Say if a large amount of hir king were wiped out in a battle and the asura needed more fighters, some mey king and hir king could be assigned to take the change. The change on the outside only took a year to fully transition. Though it took some serious adjustment time to process the change from within.
