1 Caer Kiban The castle is the seat of the Earl of Balim. It was built on a rock outcropping and the moat was dug last to form part of the river. Complete plans are given on the following pages.

(b) Stable: Master ostler Arris of Gostyn is responsible for the care of the earl’s horses and those of his guests.
(c) Carriage House: The earl’s coaches and wagons are kept here, along with the draft horses that pull them.
  2 Wall Towers (under construction)
These wall towers are under construction and are less than eight feet high. Ditches have been dug and levelled between the towers and a wooden palisade erected as a temporary wall. In contrast to the round castle towers, the wall towers are of square construction; those shown as black are almost finished.

The gatehouses at the town’s two main entrances have been completed. Each is equipped with a portcullis and machicolations.
