Baron Eres Tereneth
Constable of Baseta Keep for Earl Declaen Caldeth of Minarsas.
Sir Eres, a robust and jolly widower of middle years, keeps one of the finer tables and cellars in Meselyneshire if not in Kaldor.
In order to keep his table both stocked and to provide entertainment for his guests, he hosts frequent hunting parties. Always well attended, the local nobility covet invitations to both the hunts and the feasts.
Sir Eres is a man of many appetites, and while he has no interest in remarrying, neither is he a Peonian priest.
His current mistress, Wilia of Margant, is the daughter of a vassal lord and young enough to be his own daughter. Still, they understand each other, and Lady Wilia serves as Seneschal of Baseta.
She is an outrageous flirt but loyal to Sir Eres.
At least, he has asked the Bailiff of Allence Hundred for assistance. Beyond that, he is at a loss, but he knows if word reaches Minarsas, the Earl of Vemion may feel honor bound to intervene.
In addition, the recent return of his son Sir Miren and his changed demeanor, have worried the generally jolly Sir Eres. He wonders at the changes around him, and if he is still up to the task of managing so great a fief. Lady Wilia has tried to stiffen his resolve, but knows she can only do so much.
Sir Eres, a keen hunter, sponsors an annual hunt just prior to the Fur Fair.
All of the nobles of Baseta and its manors are invited, along with other nobles of the Allence Hundred, Ambarnis Hundred, Myaman Hundred, and Nelafayne Hundred.
The Earls of Vemion and Neph are also invited out of courtesy, though neither has ever attended.
Over the two days of the hunt, depending on the game, the Constable’s master of the hunt devotes one day to the stag and one to the boar.
The hunt begins just after dawn in Gallard Square, and many of the townsfolk gather to see the nobles who wear their heraldic surcoats for the occasion.
At the end of each day’s hunt, all of the kills are roasted and there is always enough to provide for the needs of the castle and to distribute to the townsfolk.
At the end of the hunt, the Constable accords the noble deemed most worthy the choicest cut of meat as well as a silver flagon later to be engraved with the worthy gentleperson’s arms.
The Tereneths have served clan Caldeth as constables for several generations, watching over their holdings in Meselyneshire.
The current constable, the 48 year old Eres, is competent lord.
A widower, he is happy with his home and his mistress, and has no greater goals in life.
He has the misfortune of living just north of the conniving Baron Wevran Ethasiel and the ambitious Sheriff Sir Maldan Harabor in Olokand, far away from the support of his own liege.
Motives: Live well. Protect his family. Serve his liege. Fall quickly to more powerful neighbors.
