A Warder

Warders are the personal bodyguards to members of the Magisterium. All Magister Wizards of Senator rank or higher have a warder capable of protecting them from mystical or mundane threats.  It should be noted that in Lands held by House Romanos, they are also guard members of the church who are at least the level of Vicar.

The bonds required to cement the pact between a warder and their bond holder are magical in nature and require that the bond holder have at least some basic magical ability.  Though the ritual required to form this bond is jealously guarded by the Magisterium and the Clergy of House Romanos (who initially came up with the practice).  At first only men were allowed to become warders, but over the centuries, changes in status and practice have opened the path up to members of any gender or sex.
