State of the World Without Gods
Though the vast majority of Halladell seems to agree life has improved greatly after casting off the yoke of the Gods, there are those who simply do not agree. The historians tell us the Gods were cruel and abused their control over the people of Halladell, exploiting their power to selfish ends. Yet, it also seems to correlate with a great deal more safety and stability throughout the world...
In recent centuries, as those who support the Gods have dwindled, perhaps even into single digits for some of the fallen deities, there has been an unprecedented uptick in natural disasters throughout the land. Furthermore, war between the armies of the free peoples, especially between the original nine fiefs, has almost become a normal occurrence, as the presence of their common enemy continues to fade. Without the Archons, monsters have taken over much of the frontiers of Halladell and the countryside has become an openly dangerous place to live. Lastly, wild magic seems to flourish outside of the cities of the free folks, making it nearly impossible to plan for what the road might bring!
It's difficult to prove that the world was not always like this and the historians simply did not document such occurrences as the influence of the Gods took priority--still, its easy to see why there are some who sympathize with the Ghouls of Halladell...
