Dragon Forging

Dragon Forging is the art of creating magic items, only possible in the thirty Dragon Forges in Northeastern Garadel. Dragon Forging works largely the same as traditional forge-work, but the forge in particular is spectacular: a massive, intricately carved forge that seeks to use magma as its heat source. A series of huge stone chains and levers allow for the introduction of more magma- and more magic- into the forge. Increasing the magic increases the volatility of the crafting. In short, the more magic the smith wants to infuse the item with, the more difficult the item will be to craft. Magical items also increase with power over time as the item is reforged or refined- so it is a powerful artifact is a matter of skill, time and effort.   Dragonforging is not something done in one go- it typically requires a month of daily effort to produce an item of notable magical power. Items can be reforged and refined to further reinforce the magic within them, and must be for many items of great power, as it takes a full century of daily effort to produce items of the highest quality.   A dragonforging smith has little control over the nature of the item, though it typically increases the durability of the forged item. Weapons and armor almost always enchant in a kind of invisible intent- enchanted swords are more accurate and seem to seek out their targets, and enchanted armor seems to work to actively make their wearer safer against attacks.   More complex magic items that can perform more visible effects require the injection of magic from a spellcaster, which the forged item can capture and replicate.    Access to Dragon forges has been the cause of much war and great fortunes.
