This is how the world ends

Darkness was pouring into the world, as if through a rip in the sky. Most people, if they noticed, thought it a particularly dark rain cloud in the distance. But those that looked properly – and they were mostly children, not yet trained to see what society told them to – saw it for what it really was: something alive, and moreover, menacing. A dark threat made of sharp teeth, ripping claws, and black intentions.
