Scoria

Inhabitants

Scoria is the sovereign and ancestral realm of the Dwarfs. High Dwarfs inhabit the mountains themselves, in elegant excavated apartments, carved into and through the mountain by successive generations of their kin. Apartments on the outside are reserved for Dwarfs of great wealth or military distinction, with its King at its apex by custom. Deep Dwarfs inhabit the natural and artificial network of subterranean caves. directly beneath the mountains.

Economy

Trade occurs primarily within trade hubs, in the Deeps, with goods, travel, and wars exchanged among adjacent kingdoms in an extensive network of near-surface tunnels. The Deeps economy is centered on metal extraction, smelting, forging, manufacturing. food canning, and export. Food canning is especially lucrative, due to intense demand for canned food by High Elves in Euphoria.

Government

There are 100 High Dwarf kingdoms within the Heights, each with its own king, mountain, and kin. Each king is a defacto member of the Assembly of Free and Independant Kings (AFaIK). Although these kingdoms continually disagree, and wars are expected, the AFaIK assembles on existential matters, particularly defense and trade. Trade with the Deep Dwarfs is essential for all Kingdoms, and closely managed by Royal Trade Ambassadors.

Culture

Scorian culture is divided into two distinct populations:

High Dwarfs

High Dwarfs are characterized by kinship with and allegiance to, an individual kingdom within the Heights. High Dwarfs are notoriously bellicose, and they fiercely protect their kin and their borders. However, they are relatively polite to Deep Dwarfs. It is common to hear a High Dwarf refer to a Deep Dwarf warmly or dismissively as "Little Brother". High Dwarfs who have the authority and means to travel to the Deeps tend either to be wealthy and powerful, or a merchant laborer. Their mountain strongholds are fiercely defended, both above- and below-ground. Its guards and military have a "throw axe first" policy.

Deep Dwarfs

Deep Dwarfs are characterized by residence within the Deeps. Their subterranean tunnel network sprawls downward for miles. The wealthiest Deep Dwarfs live in opulent treasure vaults at the lowest limits.

Ecology

There are increasingly common accounts of Dwerewolves in Scoria.

Geography

The realm of Scoria lines the northern coast of Lotria. It borders Euphoria and Dysphoria to its south. Scoria is a mountainous realm, with a dense system of artificial caverns throughout its mountains (i.e. the Heights), and an extensive subterranean network of natural and artificial tunnels (i.e. the Deeps).
