Portal Hub
The Portal Hub is a central feature of Euphoria, a bustling transit center for various sentient fantasy species, facilitating cross-realm commuting for purposes ranging from holiday travel to daily work. Placed in the middle of the desert, at the end of a long road that requires a licensed vehicle to traverse. (This is policed by a peeve.)
Architecture
The Portal Hub is a four-story construction, designed with a focus on medieval aesthetics. It features a central chamber, with a column in its center, just wide enough to ouse a single office within the column, on each floor. Predominantly constructed from roughly hewn stone, with wooden railings on skybridges and stone stairways. The design often leans towards impracticality, favoring cultural preferences for dark age medieval tropes. The main chamber is lined with pillars.
Department of Transportation
On ground floor of central chamber. Run by Peeve clerks. Unreasonably long lines, and waits. And everyone has their mode of transportation idling indoors. Hundred desks, with peeves at them. With typewriters. And stacks. And then lines of wizards and witches and magical animals and carpets and ornithopters and brooms - all needing different licenses. There is a number system, and your number is always unnecessarily long. The main chamber is somewhat poluted with exhaust from everyone's mode of transportation. At end of some lines, if you ever get there, you are given an appointment ticket to come back later. When you return, your appointment is for the privilege of standing in line. Department of Teleportation
Alignment: Portals are placed individualy, every 1 meter along the walls of the Hub. Types: Portals vary widely, ranging from large old mirrors and wardrobes to more whimsical objects like chamber pots, biscuit tins, and even spaces under a child's bed. Smaller portals, like urns, are displayed on ornate pedestals. Each portal is displayed like a museum piece, with artful lighting, and a small plaque indicating its destination.
Accessibility
Skybridges: Skybridges extend from the central column to the outer floors at frequent intervals, with their angles rotating on each level. Stairways: Winding stairways connect the various floors, enhancing the Hub's accessibility.
Atmosphere
The Hub combines the charm of medieval architecture with the dynamic hustle of a modern transportation hub. The interior, though somewhat random and squalid due to the nature of the portals, resonates with a sense of historic grandeur. The Portal Hub is constantly alive with activity, as characters of all types move across wooden skybridges and stone stairways, amidst flashes of magical light from the portals.
