Seravon
Seravon is a small kingdom, yet many would describe it as free spirited and majestic. Born from the collapse of the Stendid Empire in 1914, the peoples of the City of Alderau and the surrounding mountains and forests found themselves assailed by two of the successor kingdoms of that war, but have stood strong under the leadership of the Steel Dragons, the two Dragons who are the Kings of Seravon.
Structure
The Steel Dragons, the two dragon kings of Seravon, are the ultimate authority in Seravon. They disseminate their orders to a council of elders, made up of an elected elder from each town, and each district of the city of Alderau. These elders, in turn, report to their own councils, who are responsible for implementing the orders of the Kings.
Culture
As an odd nation itself, ruled as it is by two dragons, the people of Seravon are open and welcoming to those who may not exactly be seen as the norm. They are fairly trusting, knowing their Kings will handle most problems before they become a threat, but are generally wary of people from Old Stendid.
History
When The Stendid Empire imploded in the Great Successor War of 1912, the province of Seravon found itself under the leadership of Prince Kastian Tranquillity, fourth son of the late Emperor, Fandrel Tranquillity. As the war raged in earnest, his rule became short lived, as his brother, Danzig Tranquillity, had him assassinated, and his shell hung from the gates of Alderau as a warning. Danzig took the province as his own, but had little time to consolidate his rule, as he rushed north to face the newly crowned Emperor Phandrin Tranquillity, and was subsequently killed in the Battle of Prestlan Hill.
In the absence of a clear leader, and with war having ravaged the supplies of the already poor province, Seravon fell into chaos and anarchy. Petty bandit warlords took over swathes of the landscape, and the city of Alderau faced constant street fighting as gangs and criminals overwhelmed what remained of the garrison before turning on each other. This state of Chaos continued for nearly a year before a pair of unlikely saviours arrived. The Green Dragon Kastiss, and the Silver Dragon Marill.
Having seen the plight of the people of the land the pair of dragons, oft times at war with each other, set aside their differences to protect the land they both loved in their own way. Kastiss immediately set about cleansing Alderau of it's criminal infestation, using all his cunning and guile to rally the few remaining citizens of the city, and draw out the criminals like poison from a wound. Marill set about clearing the land beyond the city, using his great strength and speed to cross mountain, field, and forest, bringing the destruction of bandits and warlords wherever he went.
Within months, the province was secure and safe once more. Kastiss led workers to woodlands full of sturdy trees, and fertile meadows in which to grow new fields. Marill led expeditions into the mountains, uncovering rich ore veins, and ancient ruins full of treasure to refill the coffers of the land. The people were grateful to the pair, and overjoyed to be safe once more. A council of elders was called and, almost unanimously, they chose to ask the dragons to stay, and take on the role of joint kings. After a month of deliberation amongst themselves, the dragons accepted, and the Kingdom of Seravon was formed.
But another test of this new Kingdom's strength was looming. The Great War Of Succession had come to a close. The two successor Kingdoms, Old Stendid and Eastwald, had made a tentative peace, but each desired to add Seravon, a land both saw as rightfully theirs, to their holdings. It would not be long before armies crossed Seravon's borders. Kastiss and Marill, however, had put in much work to ensure the security of their new Kingdom.
Eastwald made the first move, in the winter of 1918, sending in armies from both the north and south. The attackers in the north, forced to pass between Lake Portmond and the mountains, found the Portmond Plains, once open sheep grazing country, blocked by a huge defensive line that blunted their attack, allowing Marill to lead a decisive strike that scattered their forces. In the south, the attackers had to pass through the Seravon woods, once Kastiss' personal domain, and found that the very woods themselves were against them. Constantly under attack by animals, plants, trees, and well hidden soldiers, the attackers barely made it through the woods, and what remained was easily crushed by Marill and his forces returning from the north.
There was little time to celebrate however, as a mere month later, a huge force from Old Stendid crossed Lake Portmond and made a beeline straight for Alderau. The army was bolstered further by the subsequent arrival of the Shellborn Ironclads, formerly the personal retinue of The Emperor Of Stendid. The city quickly fell under siege and things looked dire. The opposing forces outnumbered the defenders almost 8 to 1. But Kastiss and Marill had a plan. The previous winter, Marill had formed a huge artificial lake from ice high in the mountains above Alderau, and it had filled to the brim. With spring now beginning, and the contents of the lake melting, Kastiss led a small force up a hidden path in the mountains to the base of the lake edge, where they set a great many immense fires. The lake wall broke, and hundreds of millions of gallons of ice shard filled water cascaded down the mountainside onto the besiegers camp below. Most of the army was wiped out, and those who weren't killed or wounded fled. The Shellborn Ironclads lost over half their number, a loss that would take them decades to recover from.
The land was safe once again, and the dragons turned their thoughts to ensuring it's prosperity. Since that time, there have been no major invasions of Seravon. Old Stendid occasionally makes a foray, as did Eastwald until their Tranquillity rulers were ousted by the new Human rulers in 1963. The land of Seravon has changed, becoming a small, yet powerful nation based on the export of fine lumber and metals.
