Hade Genasi

"It is difficult not to feel for the Hade, borne of the remnants of an ancient, unknowable war, worshippers of banished beings, and pushed out of their own homes by foreign powers." - Markus Akurbu, Steward of the Pernsival Court of Magic Affairs

Origin

The Hade Genasi are the people native to Hadenaeu. It is believed by Genasi and scholars of other races as well that the sea of Hadeneau is where Genasi originated on the material plane. This is because of the massive amounts of residual primordial magic left behind in the Barrier Sea, as it was the final battleground in the Deity War, where the gods forever sealed away the primordials to their elemental planes. The Hade were born from the residual magic left behind in the waves, at the same time the gods were watching their creations evolve.

Religion

The Hade religion, known as Karakia Huanga, is dedicated to the four primordials. Many Hade only worship one of the primordials, but they recognize the need and power of the other three. Much of the religion's code revolves around maintaining balance in one's life, as a parallel to the balance created by the four elements.   Each primordial is said to reveal themselves in different forms, different aspects of themselves correlating to the different domains one can devote themself to.

Ak'vo (Water Primordial)

Ak'vo is said to reveal themself as; Mak'at (Death), Aleki (Knowledge), Hanohano (Life), Ha'aheo (Light), Ahohako (Nature), Hoku (Tempest), Anahera (War)

Ignevu (Fire Primordial)

Ignevu is said to reveal themself as; Inina (Life) Fuifui (Death), Hekili (Knowledge), Iolani (Light) Papan (Nature), Tiaho (Trickery), Nui (War)

Te'akfa (Earth Primordial)

Te'akfa is said to reveal themself as; Chimalli (Death), Cozamalotl (Knowledge), Iccauh (Life), Citlali (Nature), Sacnite (War)

Leytfo (Air Primordial)

Leytfo is said to reveal themself as; Atl (Life), Eleuia (Death), Itotia (Knowledge), Nahuatl (Light), Ohtli (Nature), Cenete (Trickery), Teicui (War)

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The major language of the Hade is Primordial, owing to their ancestry, and the four clans each have their own dialect. The Ka'aukai speak an Ignan dialect, The Afa speak an Aquan dialect, the Pelika speak an Auran dialect, and the Torao speak a Terran dialect.

Culture and cultural heritage

The Hade, being the first of their kind, don't have much of a heritage to call their own, they were created by accident essentially. However, the surroundings that the Hade arose in caused many places and creatures to become culturally significant to the Hade. Much of Hade culture is based in the beauty of the natural world, and the impact one must make in history.   Starting first with the cultural significance of the natural world, the Hade see every aspect of life as blessings from their primordial forbears. To them, the moon's control of the tides comes from Ak'vo, the water primordial. The thunderous fury of a volcanic eruption is caused by Ignevu (fire primordial) and Te'akfa's (earth primordial) bitter fighting. The gentle winds that carry ships from shore to shore are sent forth by Leytfo, the air primordial. All of these and more are seen as culturally significant because of their spiritual ties to the primordials.   The need to make your name known, however, is more common among all mortals. Hade especially. Since they were essentially brought to existence out of sheer chance, the need to make sure that people at least knew that you existed is especially prevalent among the Hade, and causes many Hade to search for a higher meaning or create things that causes them to be remembered.

Shared customary codes and values

From a young age, Hade are encouraged to fully appreciate the value of other's company. It is uncommon for a Hade to be on their lonesome for extended periods of time. Within their own clan and Hadeneau at large, Hade value having others around, no matter who they are.   Along with this, Hade also value intellectual pursuits. Studying theory, religion, or any art form, is valued among the Hade. Likely owing to a need to understand more about the world and their place in it. Hade since their earliest years have always searched for ways to explain the unexplainable, and at least trying to make sense of the seemingly unidentifiable is important.

Common Etiquette rules

To be polite in Hade society, one must be able to carry themselves with confidence. Much of Hade banter and life revolves around being the smartest one in the room, and having the cutting wit to uphold that status. A Hade is not going to spit on a beggar on the streets, they're not that kind of cruel, but if someone is unable to keep quiet, a Hade will very quickly jump on the opportunity to shut them up.   So wit is an important part of Hade etiquette, but Hade are also expected to use that knowledge and wisdom not just for smarminess, but for good manners as well. Hade are expected to use their knowledge to better themselves and the world around them as they see fit. And they're expected to do this through their manners as well. Rowdy, obnoxious, and impolite Hade are looked down upon, even as young adults, as the adults in Hade society do not want that kind of behavior to continue.

Common Dress code

As stated in the beauty ideals section of this article, Hade are not known for modesty, and there are many examples, like their piercings, but many Hade choose to express their art through clothing. For example, certain colors evoke different feelings, so some Hade like to wear colors that express how they feel. Often times, Hade just wear clothing they think looks nice.   Of course a level of practicality must be reached as well, as Hade have active lifestyles. Often times, many Hade will wear loose, cotton pants to protect their legs and shoes, and just go shirtless, to help stave off heat, and use their piercings as expression. All in all, Hade devote a lot of consideration to putting on clothes that can express them and keep them comfortable.

Art & Architecture

The creation of art is the paramount goal of any Hade. The ability to make something impactful that lasts for years to come is an achievement any Hade would strive for. As such, art forms of Hade take many different forms. The most unique to Hade however, is an art form known as "Hikawera." Hikawera is unique to Hade, as it requires their special intimacy to their element. Hikawera consists of some kind of performance that tells a story, and uses that Hade's element to help tell the story. For example, a Toroa artist could shape the earth into statues depicting a great hero doing battle with an infamous villian in Hade mythology. Hikawera is not the only Hade art form, many Hade are renowned composers, painters, dancers, and actors as well. Hikawera is simply unique to Hade, as it can encompass all art forms, and includes the use of elements as well.

Foods & Cuisine

Many ruins of especially ancient Hade cities provide evidence that they consisted on massive amounts of grown produce. Hade are skilled botanists, and many Hade are vegetarians or vegans, and are able to grow fruits and vegetables no one else has figured out. For example, the stone fruit. A large cantaloupe adjacent fruit with rock hard dark gray skin and a vibrant red, tart interior. Only the Hade know how to cultivate them, and as such, they are an incredibly highly priced export, and their unique flavor keeps them in high demand.   This isn't to say, however, that Hade do not know how to hunt or any amount of animal husbandry. Collaborating with the Sun Goliaths has proven fruitful, as they are skilled sailors and fisherman, and provide the Hade with many of their catches in return for their produce, but the Sun Goliaths were introduced to much of Hadenaeu's seas and wildlife by the Hade. The Hade also have proven their skill in animal husbandry, as they have made Axe-Beaks their premier beast of burden. Equally impressive because of Axe-Beaks' nasty disposition and their lethality.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

The most important tradition in a Hade's life is one called "Wa Waipuna" often referred to as "The Journey." The Journey begins when a Hade recieves a vision from a primordial in one of their forms, and they are to relay this vision to a priest, who will help them decipher it and tell them what the primordial is urging them to do. This could be something to find, someone to meet, somewhere to go, a battle that will be fought, or any other number of things. The belief is that once the Hade braves the journey and faces whatever they saw in the vision, they will be given a new out look on life, and be blessed with wisdom one can only receive after completing this rite.   Commonly a Hade will receive their vision as they age. The most common years being between fifty to seventy years old. It can happen at any age, but it is more common among the older members of the Hade. One of the most important parts of the Journey is the mentorship aspect. These Hade, on their expedition, will hire younger Sun Goliaths between the ages of 20 and 30. These Sun Goliaths are very new into life outside of their clans, and are often looking for work. Hade will often recruit Goliaths they have known from a young age, but some seek out goliaths they have never met, looking to form a new friendship. The advantage of the relationship is that the Hade will have someone that they can rely on to help them through the tougher parts of the Journey, and the Sun Goliaths will gain valuable knowledge and experience on an adventure.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

At the beginning of their lives, Hade are taken to see the town's priest, who will anoint the child as a new member of their family. The priest will also have a vision of the child's future, and they tell the parents of the child a virtue that their life will exemplify, for example, a priest could see a child succeeding in a battle and defending the weak and tell the parents that their child will live a life of courage.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Among the Hade, beauty ideals, while not the most important part of day to day life, still are regarded with importance. Similar to everyone else, what a Hade finds attractive is specific to them, and is wildly different from what another Hade who lives next door might find attractive, but certain beauty ideals among the Hade culture are more prevalent. Many Hade engage in body art. Piercings are the most common form. Ear piercings, nose piercings, septum piercings, and any other place that is pierce-able is likely to be at least considered for a piercing. The Hade are known for being the benefactors of massive amounts of valuable metals and gems from the caves that dot the coasts, and one of the earliest Hade practices would be paying warriors in service to the tribes in these valuable metals. As a trophy to display one warrior's prowess, many would have their metals melted down and turned into piercings by jewelers, that way, they could display their proof of victory wherever they were. In relation to the occupation of jewelers, it is one of the most coveted jobs among the Hade, as it offers much artistic expression and requires much skill and knowledge, both highly valued aspects of life to Hade. Overall, among the Hade beauty ideals come from proof of one's accomplishments through use of body art.

Gender Ideals

Within Hade clans, gender is not used as a judge of character, and any position can be held by anyone, but some are more likely to be popular with one gender as opposed to any other. For example, the chief of any one the clans will always have a body guard unit made up entirely of guards of the same sex. The tradition goes back to the earliest days of the Hade, before even the clans were established and comes from when small parties of warriors all of the same sex would overtake the larger tribes at the time, and rule them until interlopers would arrive and repeat the cycle until the small tribes were united and the clans were created.

Courtship Ideals

From ages 16-18, Hade are expected, if they are interested, to begin making advances on potential partners. These years are referred to as "manaaki." During manaaki, Hade are pressured by family members and mentors to find someone that they wish to spend their life with. Of course, this is a huge ask, as even without this stress, those ages are some of the most turbulent years of anyone's lives, and unfortunately, this pressure causes some Hade to enter unhappy relationships, as both members were pressured into the relationship.

Relationship Ideals

Relationships within Hade clans are sadly often rushed into because of the intense pressure to even initiate said relationships among the clans. It's not impossible to have a happy relationship between two Hade, many Hade do, but it is unfortunately too common that many are unhappy and end up ending the relationship after suffering through an unbearable relationship. But as for ideals and expected duties among partners, there are no specific duties that must be followed, both are expected to carry their own weight and care for the other.
