Taijin

A forgotten god rediscovered by King Duran in the vaults of Darkstone. One night during a visit, King Duran was engaging in one of his favorite past times: Relaxing with a goblet of the finest beverage that money could buy and taking a stroll through his vault to gaze at and catalogue his riches. Tonight though his eyes were drawn to a golden merchant's scale nestled amongst his horde. Try as he might not even the most sparkling of gems could draw his attention way and he found himself clambering over piles of gold in order to get closer to the relic. Upon doing so a voice spoke to him and offered him a covenant. Wealth, expansion, prosperity and civilization for him and his people in exchange for fervent and sincere worship. King Duran was ready to accept after he heard "Wealth".   Since then the Church of Taijin has been growing rapidly seeking to gain acceptance in the Empire as well as establishing the First Bank of Duran (A Holy Taijin Enterprise © ) further cementing BrightStone as an Economic Power amongst the Desert Kingdoms.   Additionally it has come to light that among the Dragonborne Isles isolated communities have been maintaining the faith even after the core of his worship withered when madness started to corrupt the original King Duran of Darkstone. These island communities while being largely dragonborne are quite diverse and venerate/celebrate the draconic ideal of gathering wealth and precious things in a comfortable and secure home. Their ancient texts speak of the Taijin as "the First Among Phoenixes" and claim Taijin to to be as old as the Primordial Dragons. It is said that in the golden era of creation, when the Starcaller's creation was still new and magic first danced upon the firmament, a unique creature known as the celestial phoenix soared high above the realms. This phoenix, born from the energies of the heavens and not the realm of fire, was blessed with vibrant plumage and an undying spirit. Taijin possessed a burning curiosity that rivaled that of any mortal or immortal being.   Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge and an eternal flame that yearned for the elusive secrets of immortality, the phoenix embarked on a fateful journey. The radiant bird traversed the heavens and descended to the infernal realms, seeking an audience with Asmodeus, the Dark Prince and Lord of the Nine Hells.   In the depths of the infernal dominion, a unique trade unfolded. In a bold and perilous exchange, the phoenix offered Asmodeus the secret to undying flames, an eternal fire that could never be extinguished or quelled. In return, the phoenix beseeched the infernal lord to grant her the power to shape-shift, to mold her form at will, assuming any guise that caught her fancy.   Asmodeus, ever the cunning and shrewd negotiator, saw the immense value in this trade. To possess the power of the eternal flame would be a coveted weapon, while granting the phoenix the ability to transform would forever bind her to the realm of mortals, an existence where desires and ambitions could be manipulated and harvested.   Thus, the pact was sealed, and the phoenix was granted her newfound ability to change physical forms. With each rebirth, she emerged as a different being, experiencing life through the eyes of various mortals. She traversed vast landscapes, explored ancient ruins, and amassed a legendary horde of treasures, as well as countless secrets that she guarded with fierce determination.   Life after life, the phoenix accumulated vast wealth and untold wisdom. Her true nature, always dormant within, ensured her resurrection and provided an unwavering connection to her celestial origins. As she neared the culmination of her grand quest, having amassed enough knowledge and riches to rival the gods themselves, she ascended to the realm of divinity as the God of Wealth, Trade and Commerce. Some scholars theorized the domain was earned by virtue of Taijin being the first and possibly only being known to have struck a truly mutually beneficial deal with Asmodeus. An entity who should have been a natural enemy to a celestial.   Although it is unknown what other factors besides the madness of King Duran contributed to Taijin's silence or what the deity has been up to during there dormancy on Terra, the power they now bestow upon their faithful is unquestionable as potent as any other deity's. During their resurgence Taijin has manifested themselves in a variety of forms to his faithful and seems to favor no ancestries form above any other. Although this deity has a very diverse makeup of followers, it is most common to see them worshipped by Dwarves, Dragonborn, and Humans. There is a new controversial practice of venerating Taijin through the minting of a coin bearing his religious symbols or iconography and a design that depicts a dwarf on one side and a dragon on the other. This practice is known to disturb the older and more conservative elements of both the Dwarven and Dragonborn populace who do not have favorable perceptions of one another due to the infamous fatal enmity between Dwarves and Dragons. This more conservative element will use a design commemorating Taijin's origin legend, with a phoenix on one side and Asmodeus on the other. Taijin has a special relationship with both Phoenixes and Couatl's and is commonly worshipped by the immortal firebirds and celestial feathered serpents. Taijin freqently utilizes these beings as messengers, heralds, warriors, and servants.

Despite being a good aligned deity, the church of Taijin actually has an amicable (although frequently uneasy) relationship with the church of Asmodeus.
