Session 47 in Gyea | World Anvil

Session 47

Despite the wounded and winded state they were in the Bravest Braves had faced off against lesser undead many times before. Although smarter than mindless skeletons and zombies the mummified gnomes and halflings that faced off against the Bravest Braves stood little chance. Fighting off the mind numbing miasma that they exhaled the Bravest Braves systematically cut them down one after another using spells to cleave through them with large bursts of damage. In the aftermath the heroes stood before a surprisingly serene cave where a pure and clean stream of water issued forth. Magnificent bio-luminescent fungi glowed along the interior where spiders like skittering jewels built elaborate glowing webs.
Stepping inside they beheld a strange four limbed aberrant monstrosity and an enthralled caligni staring into the depths of some kind of gem or disc. As they got closer Koko felt a whisper deep in his mind, tempting him to venture deeper into the cave. Stopped by Mrk before he could go to close the Bravest Braves returned to Dulac custodian of the Calignis to inquire about their prophet. There they learned that the prophet was but newly revealed to the Calignis and that they did not worship him in the sense of fawning over him or asking him to grant them spells but rather that they respected the truth and power of his prophecies and respected the land too much to confront him in battle despite losing several of their tribe when attempting to go and worship. They informed the Bravest Braves that as long as they did not profane or destroy the cave that they would bear no ill will for whatever needed to be done to continue their quest. Reassured they returned to confront the monstrous prophet Urthagal.
Seeing the monster locked into a trance staring deep into the crimson disc the Bravest Braves concocted a plan to use Lans fishing acument to swiftly yank the item away. Empowered by Garland's magic he somehow manages to pull off this incredible feat sending both Urthagal and the enthralled Caligni into a rage. Our heroes ran back luring their opponents away from the sacred cave but they had severely underestimated the speed of a furious Urthagal. Sprinting across the rocks, Urthagal charged to lans engaging in vicious hand to hand combat with him and the rest of the Bravest Braves. Skillfully weathering blows and evading grabs for as long as they could while using fog and speed magics to aid in their attempt to escape. Urthagals uncanny speed would prove an obstacle yet again as Urthagal effortless contorted his body out of shape in his pursuit, swiftly squeezing through narrow corridors in pursuit of Lans and his disc, shrugging off every strike and spell leveled its way. Eventually it caught up to its quarry grasping Lans in its clawed arms and delivering a devastating bite, Lans dropped unconscious and the monster claimed its prize.
But at this point the creature was nowhere near the cave and the Bravest Braves were able to unleash the full scope of their abilities. Even Koko, fighting through the debilitating effects of Belcorra's curse, was able to dig deep into his reserves of willpower to leverage his psychic might against the creature. Before it was able to cause more carnage, the creature fell to a primal surge of magical fury unleashed by Arturo. The remaining Calligni struggled to reclaim the Crimson Disc from Urthagal's corpse but was cut down by Mrk who refused to let any enemy get any closer to the wounded Lans. In the end the sacred mushroom grove was untouched and the Bravest Braves had emerged from crisis once again victorious, this time with a strange new artifact to investigate.
