Session 38-42? in Gyea | World Anvil

Session 38-42?

Our heroes proceeded down to the next level and using the Spike (granted to them earlier by the Devil whose contract they helped analyze) to parlay they were escorted past numerous fiends and monstrosities to an intricate 5 part diabolical lock brimming with infernal might and power. The spike dissolves completely into a plume of smoke that filled the locks mechanisms and with a diabolic laugh the door opened. They are escorted inside they are met face to face with Urevian. A contract devil that seemed to be of some importance, he explained to the adventurers that his contract with Belcorra had long outlived its usefulness to him and that he was seeking to terminate it. He shared with the adventurers that he could do so after acquiring the soul of Cayman Rajana, Mrk's one time co-worker/roommate/friend?   Urevian reveals more about the man's sordid past, as well as the fact that the odds of him ever changing his ways were slim at best. Initially the heroes refused the deal, despite knowing that a meeting like this one would not be so easily granted again. However the words of Urevian planted seeds of doubt and our heroes using the enhanced Sigil mark left by Koko's tricky spellcraft, managed to track down Cayman. The heroes were able to confirm that the man had returned to a life of banditry using his newly reacquired magic sword. The heroes took him into their custody and determined to trade him to Urevian after all, ultimately doing the most amount of good for Odaro and all of the surrounding lands.   However how to gain Urevian's attention and respect once more? They decided as a show of strength to defeat some or all of the fiends holding fragments of the pendant-key that could unlock Urevian's lock and proceeded with a plan to begin hunting them down. Their initial foray into the diabolical level was rife with peril as a paralysis trap coupled with an onslaught of fiends fighting side by side with abberations dealt several devastating blows to the party but they managed to recover and overwhelm their foes. They would then confront the Motley Man from Koko's dreams in a lair covered with talismans of strange occult magic, the strangest of which being his collection of severed hands that he enhanced and controlled with his magic. He offered Koko a chance to be his partner once again, to tap into and utilize the vast reservoirs of natural magic in Bristlechill Island but the awakened Pengu would not be so easily tempted. The Bravest Braves slew him and collected their first fragment. Lans engaged in some meditation doing some remote viewing over the lands. Seeing the verdant lands of Bristlechill, the oddly calm and welcoming seas off the coast, and feeling more than seeing the tug of these other sites all around Terra.   Proceeding forth they came upon a strange holding chamber filled with bizarre and powerful looking monsters in suspended animation as well as several slain clones that looked exactly like Garrick IceTusk. They defeated the rooms few guardians and met a charismatic, opportunistic, but surprisingly wise and unhostile imp named Szek who would supply them with such much needed info. The most important being that only 4 of the shards were on this floor and that one was on the floor above. The next shard they would acquire would come from Erinyes in a forge like area where they worked above a burning platform trying to open a gate to one of the nine hells. After dispatching their guardian Bone Devil (with his annoying questions) the Bravest Braves managed to impress them with their knowledge of planar travel. Using the opportunity of course to give them incorrect information to insure the ritual could never work. Despite the successful deception the traitorous Enriyes directed their innate violence on the adventurers who had know outlived their usefulness raining arrows down upon them. Despite taking more shots than they would have liked initially our heroes were able to fall back to more favorable terrain in order to turn the tides of battle. During the chaos of the fight the Gate flared with a fire that seemed more pure than the dark sulphuric fires of the devils. This welcoming, beautiful flame seemed to envelop Koko in a flash, whisking him off to somewhere unknown, as it happened the others in the Bravest Braves were hit with a powerful wave of emotion letting them know that their friend was alright and that he would be returned to them unharmed. Somewhere during the chaos Szek convinced Lans to take a contract to review later, just in case he ever felt like making a deal and potentially help Szek get promoted.   With 2 fragments in their possession our heroes decided to go upstairs to the fragment they missed. Deducing that it must be in the one unexplored Hydra area they had once accidentally fallen into. Stealing themselves (and on the way freeing some earth elementals who had been bound to the tunnels) they made their way to the Hydra caves and utilizing their thorough knowledge of the creatures proceeded to systematically slay them one by one. All seemed well until a strange fiendish creature revealed itself, hidden in the dark water and waiting for the best time to strike. These fiend reared its head in full challenging the adventurers while they were still weary from the momentous Hydra battle. Would it's cunning be enough to slay the Bravest Braves once and for all?
