Session 21 in Gyea | World Anvil

Session 21

The malevolent apparitions flickered around the heroes and the ghost of Odaro, their lights sowing despair and confusion. Odaro immediately merged into lans shadow as the onslaught began. A brilliant analysis revealed the creatures immunity to magic but vulnerability to the magic missile spell. These key intel allowed them to dispatch the foes quickly before their mind altering powers could take a firm hold. Odaro told his story to the heroes of being blasted down to a lower level, of his hectic battle desperately searching for an exit before he was cornered and died of his wounds. He relayed how something about Gauntlight was keeping him trapped here and if they could bring his thieves tools and remains to the surface so that he can finally find some peace. Our heroes agreed to take him along taking all of his remains with them.
As they come across a great hall Lans felt a familiar feeling of lingering emotion and history a feeling he hadn't felt since leaving the academy where he was trained. A feeling made even more eerily familiar by the similar stonework in this section of Gauntlight. Exploring the hallway they found row after row of mechanical body held in some form of stasis. All of them seemingly covered in strange runes that sparked with unknown energy and dripping inky black ichor. At the end of the hall a red grid of energy prevented further progress and a empty hole with the word "Interface" written above it in Shori. Acting on gut instinct Mrk inserted his hand and made a connection with the ancient system present. His eye flashing, his body surging with energy, Mrk accomplished *something* and the way to proceed was opened....but another barrier still persisted. A barrier of swirling miasma, despair, and unbridled malevolence too powerful to overcome.
Exploring further down a secret passage they encountered a Velstrac "Evangelist" fiendish inhabitant of the Longshadow, also known as the Shadow Plane. The fiend refused to leave and its delight in inflicting pain overcome its better reasoning. It attacked with razor sharp chains but despite its best attempts he evangelist was incapable of felling our heroes. Proceeding forward they came to a long abandoned kitchen. Trapped emotion and magical energy led to another display projected forth from Mrk's central eye. A chef magically compelled by Belcorra to poison all the dinner guests with arsenics before taking his own life. Venturing forth to the ancient dining room our heroes scarce had time to take a look around before the corpses strewn about the room began to stir as they began to rise and lurch forward empowered by necromantic malice.
