Session 11 in Gyea | World Anvil

Session 11

As our heroes plotted their next moves in this hidden basement of Gauntlight. Imiq wary against the hidden threats that could still be concealed and doubtful of the haggard prisoners ability to be trusted or fend for themselves alone , elected to stay back and take a meditative yet alert watch over them. Bravely, the rest of our heroes continued forward.
Following the large hallway to the left they came across several doors one of which glowed with an eerie green light. Avoiding the glow for now they first tried the nearest door locating a seemingly empty room once used for torture, with cruel implements hanging from the wall. Proceeding through it they discovered a T-Shaped Hallway where our heroes happened upon a strange mossy vine ensnared skull. Our heroes discovered touching the interior of the grim eye socket revealed a small room with another skull. Touching that second skull began the operation of an elevator that slowly and steadily carried the heroes down. Thinking better of that course of action everyone elected to ride the elevator back up and finish their exploration of that higher level.
The next room they opened was the door furthest to the left. Their they found a room full of bones that rapidly began to animate as Lans bravely crossed. Our heroes made short work of the Skeletal Giant before it had even formed with Dr. Zips successfully stealing a foot and Garland claiming a skull as a trophy after devastating it with marbles used in the telekinetic projectile spell. Next the Bravest Braves decided to open several doors at once with Mrk opening the leftmost remaining door, Lans opening the door with the green glow, and Garland opening the right most door. Garland and Lans opened their door on the agreed upon signal while Mrk waited. Immediately as Lans opened his door the green glow coalesced into script "I was Odaro...save me from below" that illuminated across the walls before slithering like a snake out of the room and to a brick that revealed yet another staircase down. Garlands door led to a small anteroom with another door at the end.
After a brief reprimand from Lans the group peered down the door Mrk should have opened. There they saw several depictions of Norleigh the capitol of Limberry being destroyed by different disasters. There were 5 displays in all each one depicting a unique doom: one city engulfed in fire, one city being smothered by a tsunami, another being devastated by earthquakes and landslides, yet another showed a tentacled monstrosity venting its wrath across the city and its populace, the last display showed the city overrun by hordes of undead. Mrk went to check out one and as he did a tiny lighthouse tower (depicted to be far in the distance) turned and fired a searing beam of heat at him. The powerful blast caught him unawares and sent him crashing to the ground. As they advanced Garland attempted to disarm several of them from firing similar blasts but was only successful on one, however luck was with him as one blast missed and Lans was able to sneak by another allowing them to proceed forward.
There in a web covered room sat a roughly human shaped spider monster who spoke out in Aklo "Who brings offering to the Ghost King?". Dr. Zips stepped forward humbly laying an offering of soap on the table before turning to tell the Bravest Braves "We should really kill this guy". Blades and spells were brandished and despite the venomous webs of their foes they were no match at all for the Bravest Braves (especially Arturo's spells and Zips's crossbow). They searched the room and claimed his treasure including a mysterious necklace that defied their ability to magically identify it. Finally it was time to explore the last door, Locating what looks to be a silver sword of some sort amidst a pile of mops and brooms. Garland in his effort to grab it made the cleaning implements clatter to the floor which caused a strange creature to poke its head in before immediately fleeing.
The Bravest Braves pursued the creature cornering it with Lans clever ruses and intimidating it into admitting that it had been stuck here for centuries under contractual obligation to clean the floors of Gauntlight's second level with its tongue. It said its obligations are bound to the contract of another devil bound within Gauntlight, a Barbazu. He offered information in exchange for his life, a glimpse into an important memory. His hands glowed with infernal energy as he offered the deal. Under Arturo's urging Garland declined and they commenced their attack upon the fiend. However the surprisingly speedy fiend flew away nimbly darting over the heads and the defensive maneuverings of Garland. Without a very strong trail to follow for the time being our heroes gave up pursuit and tried the final door yet unopened. There they saw in a state of disrepair two large golems. While they did have salvageable parts the devices as a whole seemed irreparable so our heroes took what they could. The sight of these being seemed to trigger some memories deep within Mrk and the automaton stood awhile deep in introspective thought.
With another portion of Gauntlight thoroughly explored our heroes went to reconvene with Imiq and once again decide how best to move forward.
