Hugh Mann

Hugh Mann: One of the Ascended. God of Freedom, Adventuring and Drinking! A folk hero said to have started life as an orphan slave under the thumb of uncaring and brutal Ogres, who gave him nothing but his joke of a name and the occasional handful of cold gruel. Despite his bleak odds he would escape the Ogres and grow to become a freedom fighter, mercenary leader, and a truly great adventurer who wore his name with pride. Towards the end of his adventuring career legend says that he achieved his divinity on a drunken dare. Tales of his exploits are too many to count and if they are all to be believed he was simultaneously banned from and received a hero's welcome in every city in Terra. Renown for his humor, honor, loyalty to his comrades. A legend who never broke an oath and a mercenary who never once helped a tyrant oppress the commonfolk.
The most famous of his tales is the one of how he ascended. A day of slaying Dragon Riding Vampiric Giants had evolved into a night of equally epic celebrations and drinking. The drinking evolved into a series of escalating boasts and dares with each member of Alcayde's party doing everything in their power to one up the others. Hugh Mann of course could not let himself be upstaged by anyone. So deep into the cups that he could not see straight Hugh declared in a slurred voice "Tonight none may caim to be my better! For I shall bed the Goddess of Love herself!!!" None took him seriously until he grabbed his gear and stumbled his way to Harmonia a landmark of the city and the grandest temple to the Twins of Love and Loss in Terra. The story seems to change with each retelling some say he fought, tricked, or smoothtalked his way past every guard, champion, and cleric dedicated to the protecting the temple grounds. All without taking a single life or causing any lasting harm. Whatever the truth of it was, he did make his way somehow to the sacred Inner Sanctum. As he knelt to pray at the Inner Sanctum for the amorous attentions of the Goddess of Love, the Twins were so amused by this daring mortal that they did reveal themselves to him and offered the choice. If his desire for Love was so great that he was willing to risk losing everything he was , then they would awaken the Spark of Divinity within. He agreed without a moments hesitation no doubt believing this to be his one chance to woo this deity. Miraculously the awakened flame of divinity did not obliterate his mind, body, and soul and he ascended to become a God. It is worth noting that the church of the Twins dispute many details of this story with the church of Hugh Mann....the largest of which being on whether he was able to live up to his boast after ascending.
He is the god most often worshipped by adventurers, would-be heroes, tavern keepers, and lovers of drink. It is said that every bar pays some tribute to this god whether that be an ornate shrine or a hidden holy symbol carved into a barstool.
