Epilogue - World Events
With the coming of Ruby Phoenix and her declaring the resuming of her legendary tournament many people's suspicions were confirmed. Something had definitely changed rendering the inhospitable seas traversable again. Many governments, guilds, and private investors sought to recruit and build expedition crews. Desiring to be the first to discover new lands and claim whatever spoils or rewards that surely awaited across the sea. This new "Quest for the Horizon" would be a significant part of a new age of exploration and adventure drawing the brave and foolish from all across Terra.
In a set of events that would become known as "the Dread Reckoning of Simal" the undead would start to converge upon Simal in mind boggling numbers. A steady stream of skeleton marching out from the sea and seeking to rend and tear any living being they could find. At first mass culling and extermination of these relatively weak and mindless creature was the course of action, but as the dead continued to come King Al decided to contact an old comrad (a necromancer by the name of Gamon) for his expertise. In a stroke of genius Gamon and his numerous apprentices began to bind the undead to their will, creating a new labor force for Simal, facilitating a drastic increase in industry and naval might. However as the dead continued to rise eventually their magical power was pushed to their breaking point or some other mishap (the record is not clear) caused their spell to fail and the skeletal minions to once again rove the kingdom in their pursuit of emotionless murder. Their numbers swelled due to their utility King Al wound up with a kingdom in chaos and his castle under a hopeless siege. However one day mysteriously the assault stopped, a large quantity of skeletons ceasing their mindless marauding all at once. King Al was soon presented by an offer of parlay by a coterie of skeletons who had in life been pirates and Simali citizens. They offered to swear to uphold the Constitution of Simal in exchange for clemency for past crimes and citizenship just as any living citizen would. King Al's acceptance of the proposal marked the end of the Dread Reckoning and the establishment of the District of the Dead on the island, upholding their constitution and Simal's reputation as a place where the pirate's code comes before all else even the trappings of life and death. While this unexpected development has delivered the kingdom from a state of crisis it has been declared as a heretic state by the church of Sylas, and several nobles (especially in the Limberry region) have begun to put pressure on the Kings (and even the Emperor himself) to punish and denounce Simal in some manner.
These recent developments have sparked a movement by certain devout citizens of Limberry to petition the change of the kingdom's premier Sportsball team the Norleigh Nightmares to rebrand themselves to the Norleigh Knights. Some said this more religiously correct change would distance themselves from their painful history of dark magical practices. Opponents of this claim that such a boring and generic change would be a feeble attempt to rewrite history and would disrespect the legacy of proud players for the Nightmares (as well as needlessly alter their cool jerseys and merch sporting the iconic flaming horse). Opinions are split along generational lines with the younger generation opposing the change and the older generations wishing to defer to the option that would be more respectful towards the church of Sylas.
