Birdfolk / Tengu
Created by the Storm Keeper, Tengu populations formed around the coastal areas of Terra. A newborn Tengu usually bears plumage, wing, talon, and beak styles similar in nature to one or both their parents, but there is also the possibility that it will have an appearance similar to the birds that comprise the local fauna of the area. This great diversity of Tengus mean that they rarely judge on appearances and view all other Tengu the same no matter their appearance. This also leads them to not truly understand and look down upon prejudices shown by other Ancestries. Although flightless they have no natural fear or aversion to heights and are comfortable in precarious situations that would have others feeling nervous. Tengus are believed to be lucky as the Storm Keeper prefers not to harm one of his own children, and in fact some believe they have the power to break curses on unlucky ships or cargo. Some crews will offer free passage for Tengu passengers or (in the case of the more bold) ask for a peck for luck. Less scrupulous pirates have even been known to keep a Tengu as a captive to milk their goodluck as long as they can. Tengu tend to have a very neutral and open minded point of view and are very slow to pass judgment. Tengus will also count on one another to keep a cool and unbiased head when others around them panic. Tengus are known to walk a wide variety of spiritual and philosophical paths but the most common deity worshiped among them is the Storm Keeper, who they believe has a true form of a Raven Tengu with black feathers made of thunderous storm clouds. While in this form it is believed that he is both quick to laugh, quick to show his anger, and is especially fond of alcohol. The Church of the Father has been very careful not to decree anything that would penalize a Tengu for the way that they worship, or level any accusations towards notable Tengu figures…. However they are very quick to denounce any depiction of the Storm Keeper as anything other than a Human God or a Storm as heretical. The official church of the Storm Keeper is strangely silent on this matter.
