  Since the dawn of time, mortals have lived tentatively alongside immortal spirits. With the rise of civilisations and the relentless march of technological progress, the sentient races find themselves at the mercy of the whims and wishes of beings far more powerful than themselves; who often see them merely as playthings to be used and discarded at will, or a blight on the world that needs to be destroyed.   Most people try to live decent lives away from their direct influence, wrapped up in their own mortal conflicts and concerns. But some still find themselves drawn in to their world. The search for meaning, knowledge or power guides leads them to lives of adventure; and incredible danger. For even the most benign of spirits play their own games, and many hapless adventurers have found themselves paying dearly for the magical gifts bestowed on them so freely.   How far will you go? Who can you trust? And how much are you willing to sacrifice in the process?
