Kron (krr-on)

The Mordune Desert feels endless; golden-orange sands that roll into mountains and valleys, broken up by the occasional rocky fortress or prickly flora that stubbornly makes its living. There are many terrifying creatures, but the most fearsome is its guardian. A hidden, hungry menace under the shifting sands that can swallow cities if it should please.
You're more likely to come across diamonds in the sands than to find written account of Kron. A truly mysterious demi-god that protects the desert. Speak to any elder and their accounts vary wildly; a gargantuan being made of shadow, a whale with a dragon's hide, a force that is beyond the mortal comprehension. But there is one trait that is the same across all stories, Kron's endless sawtooth maw. A black pit that stinks of the dead with jagged hills of bone that chew through civilizations. There is nothing and no one it cannot eat.
Aside from a voracious apatite, Kron's desires are unknown. There is a legend passed down by a bard describing a truly desperate woman that came seeking the demi-god's aid. Her village was said to be ravaged by the vicious dust devils and soon there would be no one left. She came with only herself to offer to hungry being when all other gods and goddesses seemed to ignore her pleas. As the legend speaks, she walked into the desert until her feet bled, praying until her voice was stolen by the sands. Kron supposedly opened up the earth as she approached and she begged the mighty force to help, having no other alternative. The bard speaks that the woman then threw herself into the maw, and the storms were swallowed for an entire year. Not one dust devil ripped through the desert, allowing a year of prosperity all civilization needed.
But there are for more tales of death that follow Kron. Expect no mercy and pray that it does not find you, for there is nothing any mortal can do when the very earth can swallow you whole.
