Opening Situation

The purpose of this post is to provide you with background information for character creation. The Edge of the Empire is built on the power of relationships. One's obligations are a big thing. In fact, Obligation is built into the game as a game mechanic that represents who you are indebted to or connected to in different ways. This is like Han Solo's debt to Jabba. It can be monetary, but it can also lead to bounty hunters freezing your butt in carbonite if left unattended. As a game mechanic, it can be used to provide extra experience points and credits during character creation.   So in trying to create an interesting starting situation that connects all your characters, I am thinking of something like this:   You all work for the same boss, a four-armed Besalisk named Trenon Brask. He runs a small organization (mainly a cantina and landing pad) in The Dust at the base of the mesa-topping Mos Shuuta on Tatooine. At one time, he worked for Teemo the Hutt, the ruler of Mos Shuuta, but was driven from the organization for some imagined slight or other. Trenon had to find a way to make it on his own.   Over the years, Boss Brask has collected a tight-knit group of employees and operatives. Most are deeply indebted to him in a number of different ways. He is generally a fair and just leader who expects his people to work hard and contribute in whatever way they can. He needs pilots to fly smuggling runs and hired muscle to protect such missions as well as the home base. He also needs mechanics and other technicians to repair visitors' ships and droids in his landing pad. His cantina requires bartenders, musicians, floor sweepers, etc. Brask prides himself on finding a place for everyone. How do you fit in?   So the question becomes: how did you get indebted to Boss Brask? How did you get down on your luck so that you would need a helping hand? Were you born into the situation--a street urchin rescued by Brask and raised in his organization? Or maybe your ship crashed on Tatooine and his people rescued you from the wreckage and nursed you back to health. Or maybe your were a slave of the Hutt Cartel and he purchased you to fulfil a need in one of his mechanic shops. Think about how this might connect in with your character concept. I don't want to block anyone's ideas, but I hope this is a useful idea to help spark the start of our new campaign.   Please let me know your thoughts on this--if it seems like an interesting idea toyou, etc.
