The Nectar River

By far the widest river in all of Gromlin, the Nectar river runs down the middle of the continent. It twist and turns down the country side, and separates the east and west. A fresh water river whose source has yet to be discovered. The water flows from the center point of the river, just south of the grand city of Holmfirth, this means the river runs both north and south depending on what side of the continent you are on.

Geography

At its widest points, the river measures fifteen mils wide.

The river is a fresh water source to many of the lands.

Localized Phenomena

The source of the river is unknown, but it seems to be an endless supply of fresh water.

Towards the center of the river, small whirlpools are known to pop up throughout the day, while large vessels have little trouble with these, usually only slowing their trips down, smaller vessels have been known to crash or even be dragged under by the swirling waters.

Climate

The areas around the river tend towards temperate with a few areas becoming almost tropical.

Fauna & Flora

Harpys have been seen in several locations along the river, most notable the mouths of the river in the north.

Some of the smaller branches of the river house more vibrant life, such as hippos, fresh water sharks, and alligators.

Hippogriffs have been seen flying around the hills near the southern portion of the river near Cavernae Falls

Some branches of the river have Water Leapers that harass the local fisherman, caution is advised.

Branches of the river and lagoons have been known to house dangerous creatures such as Hydras, giant snakes and other dangerous reptiles.

Natural Resources

The Nectar River is a seemingly endless supply of fresh water, and fresh water fish.

The lands around the river are extremely fertile and arable lands

History

A prosperous river, the Nectar has seen its fair share of history as many large and important cities sit along its banks.

Predating the Colonization Wars are grand bridges that span the width of the river at various points. These bridges are large enough that tall ships can sail under them with ease and communities have even settled on them.

Tourism

The river is rife with locations that are perfect of a traveler to explore, from the grand cities, to the smaller humble settlements, to the great bridges.

Holmfirth of Raelon is one of the largest and most diverse cities in all of Gromlin, it sits on the west back of the river and is known as the crossroads of Gromlin

Infanmel of Selwen is a large trade city on the north east banks of the river and acts as trade hum for some of the finer things that Selwen has to offer, such as silk, arcane items, spices, and more.

Dawnmoore of Raelon is a large city sitting on the south east bank. Dawnmoore is known for a grand statue of Hidum, that always shines. It is a highly religious city and acts as the epicenter of religious activity in the Kingdom of Raelon.

Doumus, Capital city of Raelon sits on top of the river, connecting both sides of the banks. The city has a series of canals that allow ships of all sizes to sail through it, and conduct trade there.

The Great Bridges are often a site to behold. It is unknown just how old the bridges are, but they have proven to withstand and natural disaster, or attempts to destroy them.
