Spooktober 2024 - Ragoss
The Ragoss is a tall, nightmarish abomination that stalks the foggy ruins of Grimvæl. Its withered and skeletal form belies the true terror it holds—the ability to unleash a deafening, otherworldly wail that can incapacitate its prey. Its body is gaunt, draped in remnants of decayed flesh and sinew, with long, twisted limbs that drag it forward. The Shriekfiend has no discernible eyes, relying on its advanced auditory senses to locate and hunt its victims in the thick Shroud.
The creature’s gaping, featureless mouth stretches impossibly wide, emitting its signature shriek that reverberates across the land, disorienting anyone within its range. This sound is known to shatter the eardrums of the unprepared and, in severe cases, cause permanent hearing loss or death.
Ragossi are frequently encountered in the deepest, most corrupted parts of the Shroud. They are often found roaming the ruins of ancient cities, attracted to areas of strong death or tragedy. Their appearance is usually a sign that the Shroud is thickening in a particular region, and their presence leaves an unnatural silence in their wake, save for the piercing scream that follows them.
These creatures are also drawn to areas of conflict, seemingly feeding on the chaos and suffering. They are a common sight in war-torn regions of Grimvæl, where the dead are left unburied and the cries of the dying serve as their call.
The Ragoss are infamous for their Deafening Howl, a high-pitched scream that reverberates through the air, causing intense disorientation and pain to those who hear it. The sound is so powerful that it can shatter eardrums, disorient prey, and even drive them mad. Hunters who face the Ragossi must take special care to protect their ears, as prolonged exposure to the howl can cause irreversible hearing loss and madness.
While they appear slow and methodical, Ragossi are relentless in their pursuit of prey. They seem to enjoy hunting by sound rather than sight, luring their victims into traps by mimicking the cries of wounded prey or the echoes of human speech—further disorienting those they pursue. Once they have their prey in range, they will charge with terrifying speed, their long claws slicing through armor and flesh with ease
