Amedio Jungle

The Amedio Jungle is a large stretch of tropical rainforest located in the southwestern Flanaess, on the continent of Oerik.

Ecology
Flora and Fauna

The Amedio Jungle is home to numerous species of tropical flora and fauna, including some brought by migrating Olman from Hepmonaland, such as the bato, miro, and pok. Many dangerous fungi, colonial life, plants, and vermin dwell in the Amedio as well, such as the green and olive slime, yellow mold, obliviax moss, violet fungus, gas spores, phycomids, giant sundew, mantrap, pitcher plants, and Amedian gutworms.

Several more fearsome creatures also make their homes in the Amdio, including spawn of Kyuss near the ancient ruins of Kuluth-Mar, as well as bar-lgura and gibberlings near Matreyus Lake.

History

The Amedio remains a place of mystery to most of the Flanaess because so little information has been brought back from it. Certain unusual items traded by the Sea Princes were products of the Amedio. The jungle became even more real to the people of the Flanaess when the Scarlet Brotherhood began unloading slaves and warriors in Flanaess ports. As the Brotherhood controls most access to the Amedio, trafficking in its goods is kept to a low trickle; it will take the ousting of the Brotherhood from their jungle bases to allow Amedi resources any major influence on the rest of the world.

Geography

The Amedio jungle is found at the south/southwest fringes of the Flanaess. It is almost entirely tropical or subtropical rainforest, and its borders are cut off by the Hellfurnaces to the west. It is entirely located on a peninsula, with the Vohoun Ocean, Densac Gulf, Azure Sea, and Jeklea Bay surrounding it.

Lying east of the Hellfurnaces, the Amedio extends over 300 leagues south from its northernmost point at Jeklea Bay.

Two islands known simply as the Olman Isles extend northeast from the peninsula. The Isles of Axuxal, Mist Kingdom, and Pirate Isles are found off the southern and southeastern coasts. The Isle of Dread is found due south of the Amedio Jungle.

The Amedio Jungle is home to numerous ruins, settlements, and geographical features of interest, including the famous cities of Cauldron, Sasserine, and Tamoachan, and the ruins of Kuluth-Mar.

People

The jungle is primarily populated by Olman, though there are Suel tribesmen, as well as intelligent apes known as dakon. The Olman people make their home mainly in Xamaclan, the last city-state of the Olman.

In ancient times, the Amedio was home to at least two nodes of the vast spellweaver civilization.

Among Amedian Suel tribes, parents are sometimes blessed with an exceedingly rare birth, with their child being tremendously hale and growing twice as fast as standard humans to a height of 18 feet. They are known as "Suel Giants" (equivalent to jungle giants).

Religion

The Olman of the Amedio Jungle worship the same gods as their cousins in Hepmonaland. Regional differences account for minor name changes or differences in appearance.

The Amedian worship a few gods from the original Suel pantheon. Popular choices of the cannibalistic tribes include certain demon princes such as Juiblex and Demogorgon.

Languages

The primary language spoken in the Amedio is the Olman language. Additionally, Amedi is common amongst the tribes of Suel-descended humans. Other common humanoid languages include beastfolk, dakon, and kech.
