Session 14: The Egg Chamber
General Summary
The party returned to the lizardfolk lair to find the population greatly displeased. They were hustled into a living area where a subdued Hishka explained that the clan was generally upset with her for dishonorably assassinating the chief. They were all worried for the fate of their eggs, who were under watch by the black dragon Ilthane's kobolds, under an agreement brokered by the late chief, himself.
Hishka bought their safe passage by volunteering the party to fight off the kobolds, so they could claim deniability: "Oh no, human adventurers sacked our lair while vulnerable, and even plunged into the egg chamber probably looking for treasure! How horrible~"
The party plunged into the egg chamber with the semi-healed soldiers, and did glorious battle. The kobolds fought with unusual ferocity, and one escaped out the exit, but the rest lay stabbed, impaled, or sliced on the ground. Though the corpses were still, one thing yet moved.
The dragon's egg, left ostensibly as a show of good faith, rolled down the hill toward the pond! It cracked, dripping green ooze. Lins managed hurl it out of the pool, where it split open to reveal a mass of Kyuss worms! - which Vin quickly dispatched with a fireball.
Alarmed at seeing the worms so far from Diamond Lake, but relieved to have finally finished the rescue mission, the party split. Vin, worried about her family, sped away on a summoned steed to the Free City. The rest of the party headed back to the keep, to return the hostages and travel with Marzena to Diamond Lake, where last they checked, the Ebon Triad had been stirred up like a hornet's nest by their infiltration.
