Illithid

Though small in number, the illithid rely on transforming the indigenous populations of their realms into their own mind flaying horrors.

Illithid Traits

Attribute Score Improvement. Your Magic score increases by 2 and your Order score increases by 1.

Cerebral Reliance. Illithids have no ranged unit. Any feature that refers to ranged can be applied to their light infantry. Illithids can still hire ranged mercenaries.

Colony Development. When one of your armies has uncontested control of an enemy realm’s settlement, you have advantage on checks to recruit mind flayers and ulitharids.

Sense Thoughts. When other realms attempt Intelligence and Sabotage checks against you, they do so with disadvantage.

Telepathy. When at war, you choose when your armies move in the initiative order, or by DM roll if multiple illithid realms exist.

Illithid Units

Illithid armies are centered around the protection of an elder brain, that controls and coordinates illithid units to peak efficiency.

Kruthiks

Trained kruthiks serve to disrupt the enemy by burrowing behind the line and impeding the advance of maneuvering formations.

Mindwitness

A beautiful mix of beholder and mind flayer, the mindwitness shares similarities with both creatures and serves to force the enemy into exploitable positions.

Mind Flayer

The most common illithid is a dangerous psionicist capable of extracting brains for the future population of the colony.

Ulitharid

Slightly stronger than a mind flayer, the ulitharid becomes a guard for the elder brain, serving their master until such time when the ulitharid sacrifices themselves to feed the elder brain.

Neothelid

Though most neothelids are uncontrollable and hunted by illithid society as a failure to increase the colony’s population, their uses to further illithid goals cannot be overlooked.

Elder Brain

Though fragile on its own, the elder brain is a force multiplier when it comes to improving the effectiveness of an illithid army.
