Jascar in Greyhawk | World Anvil

Jascar (JAS-car)

The Lord of the Dells, the Mist Upon The Hills, the Dweller Upon the Heights, the Voice of the Hills

Hills and Mountains

Lesser God of, Lawful Good
Origin: Suloise
Domain: Centerspire in Bytopia, a mountain that connects Shurrock with Dothion
Symbol: A white-capped mountain
Allies: Fortubo, Phaulkon
Enemies: Beltar
Jascar is a strong god devoted to protecting hills and mountains as well as advancing the cause of good; Phaulkon often associates with him on the latter goal. He has a fierce hatred of Beltar, whose sites he sees as a corrupt inversion of the places he loves, and has a friendly rivalry with his brother Fortubo. He takes pride in forming hills from flatlands and mountains from hills, placing treasures in each for good people to find. Jascar appears as a powerful man with a long brown beard — an atypical Suel — and long hair, wearing a thick silver breastplate.

Dogma

Hold no quarter for evil nonhumans like orcs and goblinoids, and equally hate those who would make the beautiful hills and mountains ugly. Protect the hills and mountains from plundering by evil forces and you will be rewarded with the treasures Jascar places under the earth for good folk to find.   The church teaches common tactics used by evil nonhumans

Major Centers of Worship

Places of worship devoted to Jascar are always made of stone; the main chamber is often below ground, sometimes in a natural cave. Temples to Jascar are often shared with Phaulkon's clergy, and vice versa. However, a temple consecrated solely in the name of Jascar can obtain special protection. The head priest of such a temple, if of 9th level or higher, can pray for this protection. If Jascar grants the request, the temple is rendered immune to earthquake or disintegration magic — unless the temple's altar is defiled.

Specialty Priests (Mountaineers)

Jascar's priests study hills and mountains, searching for entrances to underground lairs where evil humanoids and monsters lurk. They lead mining-survey expeditions and crusades against marauding humanoids. Each carries a small hammer or pick as a holy symbol (not usable as weapons). They are usually human, but some dwarven and gnome clerics devoted to Jascar do exist.   Jascar is worshiped in the mountains and hills of the Flanaess, especially in the Flinty Hills and the hills and mountains within the Iron League.   Priests of Jascar choose a species enemy just like a ranger, with all of the benefits and penalties of this choice.   Jascar’s clerics often lead cross-country and underground crusades against evil nonhumans. They survey for precious metals, and advise miners on how to dig their tunnels safely and cause a minimal amount of damage to the surrounding environment. Their single-mindedness often alienates them from others, but their dependable nature means that an entire temple can be called upon in times of crisis; the network of the multi-racial Jascarian faith is strong as stone

[Note: Jascar could possibly be the male aspect of the Goddess Ulaa]
