The County of Urnst is populated by a mixture of peoples, most being of Oerid stock, but hostile toward the Aerdi, unwilling to serve a Nyrondal monarch. The Palatine Duke of Urnst long encouraged separatists in the county above, and eventually the King of Nyrond was to agree to a separation of this state from the kingdom. The land to the great bend of the Artonsamay, south to the Franz, to the shores of Nyr Dyv is ruled by the House of Gellor, whose current representative is the Countess Belissica. The county is allied to and under the protection of the Duchy of Urnst, but its ruler is by no means subservient to the duke (who is seeking to marry his eldest son to the Countess and thus permanently unite the lands into one realm). The county maintains a small but efficient squadron of warships on the Nyr Dyv. An army of some 2,000 horse and foot garrisons the key strongholds, and noble levies can raise 10 times that number of troops in a week or two.
