Vargo Brickmore
Captive of the Party, Former Cultist of the Suffocating Ooze
Vargo Brickmore is a broad-shouldered, rough-hewn man in his late twenties, his body hardened by years of toil and street brawling. Born in the mining town of Steaming Spring, he lost his father to a cave-in at the age of six. With no means to survive, his mother relocated them to the Slum Quarter of Greyhawk, where Vargo quickly fell in with the city’s street gangs, forming a second family among the destitute and desperate. When his mother remarried a Dyvers ship captain, Vargo refused to leave, choosing instead the only life he had ever known—one of struggle, survival, and growing resentment toward the city's wealthy elite.
His natural burly frame, inherited from his father, earned him work at the Wharves, but it also caught the attention of darker forces. His bitterness made him susceptible to the whispers of the Children of the Suffocating Ooze, a cult devoted to Bwimb II, the Princess of Ooze. The group, led by the black dragon Uxizor, the Sludge Tyrant, gathered in a hidden cavern beneath the city known as Guttershade Grotto. Uxizor spoke of a day when they would drown the High Quarter’s nobility in acid and filth, promises that fueled Vargo’s growing hatred. He found purpose in the cult, serving as an enforcer, recruiter, and eventually one of its trusted members.
Vargo’s world crumbled when he was captured by street beggars and handed over to an adventuring party. Under duress, he led them to Guttershade Grotto, where they slaughtered his fellow cultists and forced Uxizor himself to flee. In a desperate bid for freedom, Vargo attempted to escape but was swiftly recaptured. Now, he sits in the custody of Malachai the Barbarian, his fate uncertain. Stripped of his cause and his comrades, he is angry, fearful, and desperate, knowing that whatever comes next will not be kind. Yet, deep down, the embers of defiance still smolder within him—whether they will lead to repentance or another doomed rebellion remains to be seen.
