Turin Deathstalker
Master of the Guild of Assassins – Free City of Greyhawk
Feared and respected across Oerth, Turin Deathstalker is one of the most deadly assassins alive—a man who holds the Free City’s thieves, spies, and killers within the grasp of his silent, merciless hand. Though his influence over assassins beyond Greyhawk is unofficial, few would dare defy his will.
Born Turin Birdstalker in the Shield Lands, his childhood was shattered when the Horned Society razed his home and took him captive. The half-orc chieftain who enslaved him saw potential in the boy and taught him the arts of assassination, believing he had found a loyal apprentice. Turin played the role well, learning everything his master knew—until, one fateful day, he turned those lessons against his captors. In a single, cold-blooded night, Turin slew every orc in the tribe, leaving his former master for last.
Turin’s talents carried him through the Horned Society’s brutal courts, where he became a favored enforcer, cutting down rivals and learning the intricacies of political murder. When his patron fell to betrayal, Turin saw his chance and vanished from the Society’s grasp, emerging later as a rising star within Greyhawk’s Assassins’ Guild . His cunning and efficiency propelled him to power, and when a mad mage’s conjured fiend devastated the Guild’s leadership, Turin claimed the mantle of Guildmaster.
From the shadows of Greyhawk, he now guides the Guild, recruiting only the most promising killers, enforcing a strict code of loyalty, and ensuring that the Guild does not become entangled in the city’s endless squabbles. As a member of the Directing Oligarchy, Turin commands Greyhawk’s vast intelligence network, his reach extending into the Great Kingdom, Iuz’s domain, and even the Scarlet Order.
Turin maintains three carefully crafted identities, each with its own business front—a locksmith’s shop, a pawnshop, and a servant agency—which serve both as sources of income and as cover for the Guild’s operations. He has three mistresses, each knowing only one of his personas, and none suspecting the truth.
Possessions & Skills
A master of disguise, Turin can assume a hundred faces, from a grizzled orc mercenary to a learned sage. His arsenal of enchanted tools includes a cloak of invisibility, a dagger of venom, a short sword enchanted against humanoids, boots of striding and springing, a ring of regeneration, and a quiver of humanoid-slaying arrows—commissioned solely for his own personal vendetta.
The Hunter of Humanoids
Despite his wealth and power, Turin’s true obsession is the extermination of orcs, goblins, hobgoblins, and their kin. He disappears for days, only to return filthy and satisfied, having butchered entire bands of humanoids in the Pomarj, the Wild Coast, or the conquered Shield Lands. This deep-seated hatred drives his Guild’s unspoken rule: no orcs shall ever be accepted.
The Assassin with a Code
For all his ruthlessness, Turin is not without a sense of justice. He despises cruelty toward children, having once been a helpless slave himself, and has been known to unleash the Guild upon those who harm the innocent. The first offense is met with a warning. The second? A swift and final lesson.
Though he remains a man of shadows, Turin Deathstalker is more than just an assassin—he is a force, one whose blade is sharpened by revenge, discipline, and unrelenting purpose.
Senior Guild Members
While Turin stands at the pinnacle of Greyhawk’s Assassins' Guild, several individuals serve as his most trusted agents:
- Vesparian “Vesper” Lafanel – A shadowy figure of many identities, whose true face few have ever seen.
- Gundri Garraldson – A gnome locksmith whose expertise in traps and security makes him invaluable to the Guild.
- Caprice Molara – A master poisoner whose whispered words are as deadly as her blades.
- Ramann Damian – A ruthless enforcer from the Thieves’ Quarter, loyal to Turin yet ever-ambitious.
These assassins form the core of the Guild’s power, ensuring that Greyhawk remains a city where no crime goes unseen—and no target is ever truly safe.
