Temple of Rao

This humble yet revered sanctuary is the heart of Greyhawk’s devotion to Rao, the god of peace and serenity.

It is here that Patriarch Jerome Kazinskaia presides over the city’s faithful.

Unlike most religious ceremonies, the temple’s services are intellectual and meditative rather than dogmatic. Worshippers engage in reasoned discussions led by church elders, followed by hours of silent contemplation. While few remain for the full eight-to-ten-hour ceremonies, the temple sees a steady flow of visitors throughout Godsday, each seeking wisdom in their own time.

Despite its simple appearance, the temple is home to several powerful clerics, including high-ranking priests of Rao. While there are a few gold and platinum sacramental objects worth several thousand gold pieces, any would-be thief must contend with Patriarch Jerome himself—and his formidable assistants.

Jerome Kazinskaia, Patriarch of Rao

Standing at 6 feet tall with an imposing yet serene presence, Jerome Kazinskaia is a man of striking appearance. Though 77 years old, he appears no older than 45, thanks to potions of longevity. His flowing dark blond hair, piercing green eyes, and perfect white teeth only add to his air of quiet authority.

One of the highest-ranking priests of Rao in all of the Flanaess, Jerome frequently receives foreign dignitaries seeking his wisdom. However, this very influence has placed him in a delicate political position. While he holds a seat among the Directing Oligarchy, his dealings with powerful figures from distant lands have led some to question his impartiality.

Jerome himself longs to abdicate his position, wary of the political machinations that surround him. Yet, he remains, bound by duty and uncertainty over who might replace him. Greyhawk’s cunning rulers, particularly Nerof Gasgol, have expertly flattered and manipulated him, convincing him that his wisdom is irreplaceable. Though Jerome sees through their ploys, he hesitates to leave, feeling that his presence—however constrained—still serves a purpose.
