Spindrift Isles, The

The Spindrift Isles, a mysterious and divided archipelago, are home to the reclusive elven realms of the northern isles and the more cosmopolitan Lendore Isle to the south. While the northern elves shun outsiders, Lendore Isle thrives on trade, balancing tradition with the influence of the outside world.

History

Technically, the Spindrift Isles include both the four smaller islands to the north as well as the large Lendore Isle to the south. However, the northern islands have a distinct society and government, separate from Lendore Isle. The northernmost islands have been inhabited by elves for thousands of years, their history steeped in secrecy.

Lendore Isle takes its name from the legendary archmage Lendore, who is said to have founded its civilization. Tales of him and the fellowship he led to the Spindrifts are nearly forgotten, but his influence remains woven into the island’s culture.

Both the Lordship of the Isles and the Sea Barons have long sought to claim the Spindrift Isles for themselves. Over the years, several expeditions have been sent to explore or seize the islands, but none have succeeded. Many ships that approach the northern isles vanish without a trace, fueling tales of elven captors and sorcery.

Politics and Society

The northern Spindrift Isles are governed by the secretive Council of Seven, rumored to be composed of elven wizards, supported by elven lords and half-elven clergy. These elves remain highly insular, allowing no visitors and engaging in no trade. Stories abound of non-elven ships being seized and their crews imprisoned, though few who attempt to land ever return to tell the tale.

In contrast, Lendore Isle is open to trade and governed from its capital, Lo Reltarma, located on a small islet south of the main landmass. The Council of Seven here is more liberal than their northern counterparts, maintaining diplomatic and trade relations with the Lordship of the Isles and the Sea Barons. However, piracy is strictly punished, and offenders are swiftly and ruthlessly eliminated.

Lendore Isle has a mixed population of elves and humans, along with other common races. Most humans are of Suel ancestry, and while the Suel pantheon is widely venerated—including deities such as Lendor, Llerg, Phaulkon, Phyton, Syrul, and Wee Jas—the elves primarily worship Sehanine Moonbow. The island is dotted with open temples and sacred sites, reflecting the diverse spiritual traditions of its inhabitants.

Military

The northern Spindrift Isles are defended by 3,000 elven troops, primarily spearmen clad in fine mail, alongside 500 elite longbowmen, considered among the finest archers in the world. These warriors are rarely seen in battle, as few outsiders ever set foot on their shores.

Lendore Isle, meanwhile, enjoys strong naval protection, paying tribute to the Sea Barons and Lordship of the Isles to maintain safe passage. Any pirate foolish enough to violate these agreements is swiftly hunted down and destroyed, though whether by the Council of Seven or another unknown force remains a mystery.
