Sental Nurev
Though Sental Nurev is an exemplary leader, there are whispers in the city that his burden is wearing him down. His wife and three children worry about his health, and some within the Oligarchy quietly question whether it is time for him to step aside. For now, Sental remains steadfast, standing as one of the most trusted and capable leaders in Greyhawk.
Sental Nurev was born near Greyhawk, the child of impoverished country gentlefolk. From a young age, he recognized that skill with weapons was his best path to a better life. A retired adventurer in his village took him and his brother under his wing, training them in the art of combat. When they were orphaned, the brothers journeyed to Greyhawk, seeking their fortunes.
While his brother pursued mercenary work, Sental joined the Watch, quickly proving himself as a dedicated and fearless officer. His sharp mind and unshakable resolve led to rapid promotions, and by his early thirties, he had risen to the rank of Captain-General of the Watch. Known for his firm but fair leadership, he is respected by both his subordinates and the Directing Oligarchy.
Sental is a towering figure at 6'2", though he carries himself with a slight stoop, making him appear somewhat shorter. His thinning blond hair and mustache give him a worn but distinguished look. Years of tireless service have left their mark—his face is lined with exhaustion, and his eyes betray a man who carries the weight of the city's safety on his shoulders.
Despite his commanding presence, Sental is not a man who kills needlessly. He favors non-lethal weapons such as a man-catcher +3 and a lasso, believing that criminals are easier to handle when taken alive. However, those who mistake his restraint for weakness quickly learn their error—Sental will not hesitate to end a fight decisively when necessary. He also carries a halberd +1 and a shield with a hidden symbol of hopelessness, which he can reveal during riots or large-scale disturbances.
As Captain-General, Sental Nurev ensures that the Watch operates with efficiency and integrity. He is well aware of corruption within certain ranks but despises bribery and swiftly removes officers who abuse their power. Even thieves and assassins respect him, knowing that, unlike some watchmen, he does not see lawbreakers as mere targets for execution. Every criminal in Greyhawk, no matter how infamous, receives a fair trial under his watch.
Interactions with Player Characters
- Recruitment: PCs interested in joining the Watch must prove their skill and loyalty to Sental before being accepted.
- Lawbreakers: If the PCs run afoul of the law, Sental will handle their case with fairness, though he will not tolerate bribery or deceit.
- Political Affairs: As a Director of the Free City, Sental may be present during deliberations of the Directing Oligarchy, where the PCs might seek aid or influence.
- City Events & Riots: During times of crisis, Sental is often found on the front lines, directing the Watch to restore order. PCs assisting in quelling riots or investigating criminal activity may find themselves working alongside him.
