Lord Wainwright's Manor
This stately manor stands as the grandest estate outside the city walls, complete with a stable, shop, and servants' quarters. Its origins trace back to a humble wagonmaker’s cottage and shop from Greyhawk’s earliest days.
The Wainwright family, named for their craft, built a reputation for superior wagon-making across generations. As Greyhawk’s influence as a trading hub grew, so did their business, producing farm wagons, two-wheel carts, and massive freight wagons. The family’s hallmark, a “W” brand near the hitch, is now a coveted mark of quality. Over time, they expanded their expertise to include luxurious carriages and robust chariots—both hunting and military-grade.
Today, the manor is home to three generations of Wainwrights (five men, seven women, and eleven children), supported by ten household servants and five men-at-arms, who serve as bodyguards and watchmen. The barn houses an additional twelve laborers responsible for horse care and heavy labor, while the Wainwrights focus on craftsmanship.
In the courtyard, four signature works—a cart, a farm wagon, a carriage, and a hunting chariot—stand as proud testaments to the family’s skill. Meanwhile, the barn serves as both workshop and stable, housing two dozen fine horses. With a constant flow of apprentices, journeymen, and three master builders (one of whom is the current lord), the Wainwright legacy remains unmatched in Greyhawk.
