On the 2nd of Tinder, the body of the Mediator of the Realm was found mutilated and defiled in her small cave in Myst.

On the 2nd of Tinder, two young children, Eliza Barthen and Thomas Lerin, climbed the steep and rocky hill up to the Mediator's cave in the wilderness of Myst. The two children, although young, were familiar with the area and were two of the Mediator's favourites as they had brought supplies and deliveries for the Mediator several times before. The children were extremely intelligent and were capable of traversing difficult terrain and weather conditions.   When they arrived at the cave, parchment and bottles were strewn across the cave floor. Ripped rags and a long silver blade lay on the ground beside the Mediator, who was deceased. It had been a number of weeks since the last delivery the children had made, so they were unable to tell how long the Mediator had been dead. The Mediator's body had been mutilated with several unintelligible carvings and her face (usually covered by a black cloak) was disfigured. The long silver blade lying beside the body showed exceptional craftsmanship and valuable material. Engraved on the hilt of the blade was a small silhouette of a dragon's head.   The two children gathered themselves and fled the scene back to the nearest settlement (which was also their home): the town of Basten in Borecross. They told their parents, the local authorities and resident half-elf sorceror of the town: Barwen the Curious. Word was also passed back to the capital, Cromme. The townsfolk were shocked at the speed at which the children were able to travel back from the cave. The children revealed that the Mediator had a one-way wishing well located near her cave, which she had instructed them never to use unless in emergencies. Investigations of the body and cave were made by authorities, physicians and sorcerors, and murder by stabbing was the cause of death.   By the 4th of Tinder the entire realm knew of the murder, and Eliza Barthen and Thomas Lerin were never seen again.
