Ruby Maize in Graves of the Departed Empire | World Anvil

Ruby Maize

A genetically modified species of cereal grain, Ruby Maize is responsible for a large amount of of food production in the western hemisphere.    The ears of the maize itself are so large that they reach the size of a grown mans forearm, and semi-unintentionally cause the minor stalks holding on to the ears to droop. The kernels themselves are most often separated from the cob, dried, and ground up to be used in many other foods. They can be eaten by themselves as well, should someone lack the proper tools to cook or simply not care.    As you would expect, the plant gets it's name from the rich red coloration of the cob itself, as well as the wine-tone coloration to it's stalks and leaves.
