Masculine names
Southern Sergal male names are generally things or qualities which are considerend masculine, especially things that are rigid, rough, active, destructive, or strong.
Bull, Claw, Horn, Flame, Thunderstorm, or Mountain are examples of nouns. Craven, Cunning, Justice, Hunter, or Scarred are examples of qualities.
Unisex names
Southern Sergal follow strictly gendered naming conventions and avoid names that may give off ambiguity as to their masculinity or femininity. There are two main exceptions: Divine and Hero.
Family names
Southern Sergal family names are patronymic for sons and matronymic for daughters (like in Russian culture in our world). In translations of Southern Sergal names, the mother or father's name is often posessivized or pluralized (whichever does not require an apostrophe).
Other names
Since city life has come to the far south patronyms and matronyms often clash, so to avoid third parties from mistaking strangers for kinsmen the Southern Sergal often take the name of their tribe as a third name. Tribe names are usually a color + a spirit animal.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Southern Sergals, due to their remote and forbidding location, have some of the highest dialects to population ratio. Nearly every tribe has some differences in speech from the next. However all know Sergal Common and recently it is more common for children to grow up speaking only Sergal Common.
Shared customary codes and values
Southern Sergal are more individualistic and spritualistic than their Northern counterparts. Religion is a special part of their culture and priests, paladins, and clerics are held in high regard. Their pack instinct is still strong, however, and the family is another large part of Southern Sergal culture. There is a large emphasis on fertility and childbirth and the culture is highly monogamous. Southern Sergal art depicts divinity, myth, and legend, their architecture is practical and stripped-down.
Common Taboos
The Sergal are very focused on the nuclear family and infidelity is a major taboo, with cheaters ostracized and branded, sometimes even executed.
