Gnoll

As a "monsterous" ancestry gnolls in Baudelaire have frequently been exploited as second class citizens. Many gnolls obtain citizenship by completing a tour of duty in the military, typically a minimum of 5 years. Resulting from this is a large concentration of Gnolls in Sepulcher Hill and surrounding communities. This leads to the nickname "Mad Dogs" for Granmont's Unofficial Veteran's Affairs Office.
Just as a human who lives long enough develops cancer as a terminal condition, so too do Gnolls eventually bend the knee to time and nature. Rather than suffering uncontrolled cell growth, Gnolls instead experience a condition known as the Ravening. Affected Gnolls become overrun with an uncontrollable urge to fight, feast on, or fuck anything that moves.
In Gnoll culture this condition is seem as a deeply tragic if unavoidable end to a life, but to outsiders its seen as a random snap that could turn any Gnoll lethally violent at any time. However such outbursts tend only to happen in advanced cases. Civil gnolls are screened for early symptoms and palliative care is provided to bring comfort to the victims before they turn violent, and actual cases of injury to others by a Ravened gnoll are uncommon.
